This isn’t new but for those of you who have never seen it before, DCS: Nevada has a fun little “Easter Egg” that I saw for myself for the first time just a couple of days ago.
Groom Lake
The NTTR map is known for Las Vegas, the downtown area, and the Hoover Dam. For UFO fans and history buffs, who have read all that they can about formerly secret projects like the F-117 Nighthawk and B-2 Spirit, there is another special location on this map: Groom Lake.
Groom Lake, and the base located there, is steeped in history, myth, and some pretty wild tales that run the gamut from black military secret operations and secret flight testing to aliens. It also goes by another name, Area 51.
Groom Lake AFB is very much a place on the NTTR map and if you pick a Russian aircraft for a quick mission, you typically start at Groom Lake. This isn’t too far from the truth as its emerged over the years that the US likely has a few Russian aircraft located here for testing and one may have even crashed semi-recently.
Hidden away on the map
Eagle Dynamics, or at least someone on the team who built this map, was very clearly a Star Trek fan because located in an open hangar are….
…a pair of Star Trek Shuttlecraft complete with the ‘USS Voyager’ and Voyager’s registry number of NCC-74656 on the side – kind of like hull numbers on modern warships.
I love little “Easter Eggs” like these where the developers throw in something fun. Particularly at a place like Groom Lake.
