Fly Maverick’s Super Hornet scheme in DCS: F/A-18C

Images were passed around a few days ago from “on set” with Top Gun 2. Tom Cruise’s iconic Pete “Maverick” Mitchell character is coming back to the big screen in 2020 (pushed back by a year from original release date) with a modern take on what it is to be a fighter pilot. Just days after photos of the F/A-18E Super Hornet painted in a rather unique scheme emerged, a DCS World suitable F/A-18C scheme using the same paint job is now available too!

Negative Ghostrider, the pattern is full

The original images from the set of Top Gun 2 can be found on Revenge of the Fans. In them, we see some nice closeup images of the aircraft and its unique scheme along with the name Pete Mitchell and his callsign “Maverick” painted on the side along with three kill markings further back. All nice touches and an absolute confirmation that this Hornet will probably be in the movie.

Meanwhile, in DCS World we now have two skins appearing on the user files section of Eagle Dynamic’s website with this scheme.

This first skin, by bounj, looks to be about as close to the Super Hornet scheme as possible while fitting in on the slightly differently configured F/A-18C. If you want to add it to your skin collection, download it here.

And another skin, this time by gabuzomeu, is also available for download from the user files section.

Both skins look great and I’m looking forward to trying them on my Hornet soon!
