Ace Combat 7: Skies Unknown coming January 18th

Bandai Namco’s Ace Combat series holds a special place in the hearts of many jet, aviation and even flight sim enthusiasts.  The series fast paced jet combat has always been a lot of fun and it’s fueled interest for many a sim pilot to get into more serious sims later. The latest installment has been long awaited but we now have a date: January 18th!

Unknown Skies

Set in Ace Combat’s “Strangereal” alternate Earth, fictional nations battle it out with some familiar aircraft types. The F-35, F-22, Typhoon, MiG-21, MiG-29, Su-27, F-14, Gripen, A-10 and more are all present here alongside some more fictional aircraft and drones that make up the games anime and sci-fi inspired story lines.

The sometimes awkward dialogue and unfamiliar politics may give some pause but the series has always done one thing really well: modern jet fighter combat. All of that is on display in the latest Gamescom 2018 trailer that came out a few weeks ago.

Ace Combat 7 visual updates over the previous editions of the series bring some familiar features to flight sim pilots. New cloud technology, rain and raindrops, and VR fill out the feature-set. It’s not clear if Steam VR is supported but on the PS4 it will have Playstation VR support.

Pre-orders are now available

The news today is that the Steam Store is now offering Ace Combat 7: Skies Unknown pre-orders now along with a few incentives for those who do pre-order. An F-4E Phantom II and three skins from past titles (Su-37: Yellow 13, F-14D: Razgriz, F-15C: Pixy) round out the pre-order incentive.

It sounds like a content season pass is also part of what the team plans to offer so buyers of the more expensive Deluxe Edition get six additional content packages that are part of the planned season pass plus 8 emblems for your jet (Aquila, Aquila: Low Vis., Wardog, Wardog: Low Vis., Garuda, Garuda: Low Vis., Gryphus, Gryphus: Low Vis.). At this point we have no word on what those 6 additional content packages will be.

Check out the Steam Store for the PC pre-order. Ace Combat 7 will also be available on Playstation 4 and XBox One and you find out more on the official Bandai Namco Ace Combat site.

Im interested in the VR aspect of this game. With those graphics it could be a rather fun diversion.
