The next patch for the IL-2 series is going to be a big one and it’s very highly anticipated. It should be no surprise either as it will bring with it the release of the P-51D, P-38J and the Tempest Mark V into the series as well as the B-25D AI aircraft and the Rhineland map along with many new features. Now, the question that we all want to know is… when! Let’s speculate!
Crystal ball reveals…
This patch is more anticipated than most because of the sheer amount of content that is arriving with it. When is this patch likely to arrive?
Here’s a popular theory that is making the rounds on the IL-2 forum. Several have now pointed out that the ‘Fall Into Savings Sale‘ ends on the IL-2 website on September 30th. 1CGS has also typically not released a major patch during a sale but they have released soon after one. September 30th is also a Monday and 1CGS tends to aim for early in the week to release patches – just in-case something breaks and requires a hot fix. Could that mean that the developers intend to release on Tuesday October 1st?
It’s possible too that the patch will come this week but I get the sense right now (and I could be eating my words in 24-48 hours) that they may want a little more time cooking this thing before releasing to the public.
And what about right after that?
1CGS has already said in the most recent developer update that this will not be the final patch for IL-2: Battle of Bodenplatte or Flying Circus Vol 1. Those updates will be coming later.
Based on their typical cadence for patches I would put my best guess at the next patch after that coming some 6-8 weeks after that putting us firmly into the end of November. With Bodenplatte’s aircraft out of the way, Flying Circus Vol 1 pulling into the home stretch, and Tank Crew just a little further behind, it’s also possible that the next two Collector Planes (rumoured to be the Hurricane and Yak-9), will arrive either before the end of the year or sometime early into the new year. There’s just enough time!
And then we’ll be looking at the future… Exciting times folks!
