Deka Ironworks details air-to-air radar, weapons in new video

We now have our third DCS: JF-17 academic video, this one detailing the radar and SD-10 air-to-air missile as well as the jet’s IFF system which – from appearances, is the most sophisticated in DCS World (that I know of).

Air-to-air and a bit more

We’re really starting to get to know the JF-17’s three panel glass cockpit systems with this video as we look at both the radar and the IFF systems. The radar system already has STT, RWS, and TWS modes. In-fact, in this video, Deka Ironwork’s shows off the jet’s ability to engage two targets at once while in TWS mode. Impressive!

The video also goes over the radar ACM modes which includes very familiar vertical scan, boresight, and wide area acquisition modes similar to the Hornet, Mirage, and others.

Countermeasures are also briefly covered in the video so you can have a look at that. One feature that Deka Ironworks is bringing to the table that I wish others would implement is a special settings section that deals with countermeasure programming so you don’t have to reprogram every time.

This video should help cement the level of completeness of the JF-17 when it comes to deep and in-depth systems modeling for this DCS World level jet.

Other elements remain as placeholders (textures, perhaps even sounds) but I’m looking forward towards the time when Deka is ready to show off their updated work.

Small correction, the missile used is the SD-10, which is the export version of the PL-12. The PL-10 is an advanced heatseeking missile similar in appearance to the IRIS-T ^^

And I thought I had these finally memorized… Nope! 🙂 Thanks! I’ve made the correction!

The missiles on the tip stations are PL-5s, however, so it looks we get the newer and older systems

I am rather encouraged that they put in some functionality for IFF, this may force Eagle Dynamics to finally sit down and work out an IFF system.

Great point! It’ll be interesting to see what happens with IFF for all of DCS World.

The problem with code bound IFF is that it is very prone to exploit in a MP server, specially in servers where you can just switch sides with ease.

In the end a simple IFF bound to coalitions is more than enough for MP and realistic enough. Although I’d like that IFF were less reliable as in real life (most contacts are bogeys, that means, unknown but potentially hostile)

Is it a video game or what? or just digital combat simulator for professionals???
If it is video game or DCS for gamers. How could we get it??? and at what platform it is played???

    1. ShamrockOneFive says:

DCS World is a high fidelity flight simulator for Windows PC. It’s primarily an entertainment product though the developers pride themselves on building highly accurate aircraft from WWII to the modern day.

It’s available for digital download with more information here:
