First DCS: JF-17 previews coming out (updated)

It seems that a few select members of the DCS World community have access to the DCS: JF-17 and YouTuber Jabber’s is the first out of the gate with a video Q&A and some new images of the module. The Q&A in particular provides some interesting information on future plans from Deka Ironwork Simulations so if you’re a fan of this module or you’re interested in learning more, this is a good way to get started.

New images, Q&A, video content

Out with the first video on this, Jabber’s Q&A with a Deka Ironwork Simulations spokesperson with a wide variety of topics covered from specific features inside the cockpit to future plans. There are some interesting take-aways including that this Block I JF-17 may ultimately be upgraded to a Block II model at some point. Only two liveries on launch but Deka is intending to make the skin template available soon after launch and more liveries are intended later on. There’s also interestingly a switch for an HMD with the jet but it’s not enabled as the Pakistani Air Force currently doesn’t use a helmet display on their jets – that could change and it may yet change on the JF-17 at some point.

They also mentioned that the air-to-ground radar in the JF-17 is using the DCS World A-G radar API which perhaps means that Eagle Dynamics is further along with that system than we’ve previously known. This differs from the radar that Heatblur uses which is, to the best of my knowledge, a custom implementation.

Also interesting to note is the interest that Deka Ironwork Simulations has in building some other Chinese origin jets with the J-8BII and Q-5 both being mentioned as types they could build in the future.

If the video wasn’t doing it for you, there’s also a bunch of screenshots released by Jabbers on his Twitter.

Interesting also to note that it appears that the cockpit has yet to receive the updated textures that we saw in an update recently. It’s wasn’t mentioned in the Q&A but it seems like those will be coming post early access launch.

Stay tuned for more updates for the newest DCS World module!

Update!

More videos are popping up with one from Tonylin from Deka Ironwork Simulations showing a brief dogfight in the JF-17 available on a Chinese video site called BilliBilli right here.

There’s also a video on Twitch.TV from Buddy_Spike with a clip showing the laser guided 90mm rocket system. That’s really cool too.

Second update

Updated: December 1, 2019 at 8:59 am EST

A great pre-release preview of the JF-17 by RedKite covers a wide range of information from the influences of the aircraft to it’s various weapons and likely uses in DCS World. Of particular note is the beautiful panning shot that RedKite does as the JF-17 is loaded with a variety of different weapon systems on the pylons – that starts at 1:27 if you want to jump to it.

Third update

More information and videos are coming out. First, we have some of the introductory sections of the forthcoming Chuck’s Guide for the DCS: JF-17. The full guide won’t be available at launch but this preview should help us get started with the jet. You can find out more about that here.

Then we have Jabbers who has done a quick cold and dark to up and running video. The JF-17 looks to be fairly easy to start-up!

I would love to see APKWS on other modules, so this is great. Hoping for an and race as it were.

There’s been rumblings about them being added to the AV-8B. That’d be nice! ☺️
