Sturmovikfest 2020 is underway and what a way to begin with Combat Box’s new ‘Project R’ air racing! The first test flights were underway this morning with a couple dozen pilots joining in for some fun and challenging flying along with our fair share of crashes, collisions and hilarious moments.
Ready, set, go!
Project R brings the thrill of air racing back to the IL-2 series after a long hiatus. It’s some of the most fun and challenging flying you’ll ever do and it’s an absolute blast of a time.
Project R has three courses setup on their second server all on the Kuban map – the ideal scenery for some challenging races.
Racing anywhere from three other people to over a dozen, air racing is incredibly challenging as you try and fly low between the markers on the map with smoke coming from the top of them.
Crashes happen and it’s hard sometimes to keep track of everyone. It’s most challenging in the lead position as you sometimes don’t know or don’t have the opportunity to see what is happening just behind you.
But despite all that, it’s a lot of fun and it really lets you wring out the last bit of performance from your chosen aircraft. Popular types such as the Mustang and Tempest can be surprised by other types like the La-5FN, Fw190D-9 and even the Spitfire IXe.
