Team Fusion shows off ALL of their desert war flyable aircraft

A new video released today by Team Fusion Simulations is a simple yet very interesting showcase of all of the new aircraft that are coming to their forthcoming desert war (TFS 5.0) release. If you were wondering what the final list would be and how much it adds to the Cliffs of Dover release – wonder no longer. This is the official list!

A huge list of aircraft

The new video is a true showcase of the hard work that their team have clearly been putting into the aircraft for their new, still untitled, desert war expansion. Team Fusion have been working for the last few years on this update and this video is probably the clearest indication yet of just how much they have needed to create to bring this together.

Team Fusion does point out in their video description that some aircraft in the list and shown in the video are not yet finished and audio and visual work is still ongoing. Still, what we’re seeing here looks pretty complete to me. Have a look at the video!

From Gladiators, and Martlets, to new variants of the Bf110 and the new MC.202, there’s a long list of aircraft coming in TFS 5.0 for both the desert war or already available from Cliffs of Dover. And here’s the list!

All told, that’s 133 aircraft including plenty of variants. Plenty of options!

If you’re used to the IL-2: Great Battles method this will seem like a longer list. The way that Cliffs of Dover handles more minor modifications is…. that it doesn’t. On the other hand, it is nice to see that Team Fusion has done their homework and gone the extra mile to include tropical and non tropical versions of every aircraft that warrants it. It’s a nice touch!

No release date has been announced but hopefully we’ll know a little more about Team Fusion’s plans as the summer goes on. Stay tuned!

      VR has definitely become a killer feature. I know they have talked about VR support in the future but I think it’s still firmly in the future at the moment unless I’ve missed an announcement.

        I asked them on their forums about it and the “official” answer was that they plan to release VR 6-9 months after the initial release. Thumbs firmly pressed here, since the game looks great with lots of aircrafts, clickable cockpits and a very nice setting.

      +1. Unfortunately by the time they will add VR support (if ever) the sim is going to be seriously outdated. Even now it is lagging behind quite a bit and I doubt it will ever be a popular platform.

      Honestly though, albeit kind of wacky, CloD owns its charm. Not as well crafted as “Great Battles” but definitely a labor of love… unlike DCS WWII*. For this reason I wish Team Fusion great success!

      *certainly there is passion involved in the making of DCS WWII modules, yet the whole experience feels cold, like a bunch of features and items cobbled together.

    For such an old engine, the graphics are absolutely stunning. Still DirectX 9 I assume.

    This looks very promising, can’t wait to have a go at it.

    Graphics and interiors look awesome. If this is as good as it appears to be then it could be a credible alternative to Battle of… or DCS.

    It’s an artificially inflated list with the original aircraft from Cliffs, look how many of them are different models of the Bf109. Around 20% of the plane set is the Bf109 and its variants.

    Given how long people have had to wait for this anyway, and there’s still no release date, it makes no sense to not launch with VR support if they can add it in a few months anyway. So many people are saying no VR no buy that it has to be in there from day one. Plenty of people who have switched to VR had ditched their Track IR so won’t be able to play this (no one goes from VR to a hat switch!). After the six, or more, years of waiting for this another couple of months isn’t going to make a great deal of difference.

    It’s just a shame that this means the IL2 Great Battles won’t be going to North Africa because I have a feeling they’d just be able to do a better job of it.

      I really don’t think that there’s a brick wall around Battle of Britain, North Africa and MTO. I feel that the devs want to prioritize their resources to theatres and aircraft that would appeal more to most people, like Bodenplatte, Berlin. Later war aircraft. Even though an early war scenario would be pretty good and interesting, I feel that for now, it be more easier said than done for the devs. I don’t think Jason is saying no forever, but just not now for BoB and MTO. Jason can’t do every single battle in WW1 and WW2, so just be glad that someone has even decided to go to these areas; the quality of the product is what matters, Not who makes it.

      If you really feel that the devs should do the Battle of Britain and North Africa immediately after BoN, then go through the list of aircraft on this thread and put them into a 5v5 plane for each battle.

        I believe it was made clear at the start that it was ring-fenced. If there has been a change in this policy I’d be happy to be proved wrong, but I’ve been under the impression for some time that this is it for the Med and it won’t be part of the BoX series. It wouldn’t make any sense for them to do it and duplicate the sales; given that the two are incompatible.

        I think you’re right on this. In my podcast episode with Jason we did recently, he did hint that they were trying not to cross the paths between the two to much.

    Thanks to everyone for your collective comments. We have chosen to no go with VR on release, so as not to delay any further. It is one of our goals post release. Personally I think flying the Battle of Britain in VR will be massive for many people.

    Our priority post release is the new weather system. This is a very complex program, that when implemented, at no extra cost to owners, will be a huge game changer from an visual and immersion point of view.

    In the meantime, we are very proud of how the expansion is coming along. The reason I added all aircraft including variants was to show those who do not currently own Cliffs, that when buy Cliffs and the expansion, this is the list.

    I agree with those who say that an artificial long list of aircraft is misleading. Actually, when I see that, my first reaction is to avoid the sim because coming from a small team it means there’s a big compromise somewhere. Here it’s not too bad since, for ex, each Bf-109 is good, it’s just that they all have the same behaviour!

    The shame is that TF is not using the same engine as 1CGS and is spending time on work that could be avoided. If Team Fusion were were a 3rd-party doing DLCs for 1CGS, they would save a lot of time and could focus only on the content, we would have a better result, and more choice for user-created missions.

    Unless I’m wrong and they finally agreed to use the same sim engine, but I think it’s not the case, TF started from the code of IL-2: CoD, for which they bought the rights, then forked and did a more or less similar job on the engine than 1CGS did on their side.

    I suppose that when they signed this agreement, TF didn’t see the roadmap 1CGS had, and wanted to “save” CoD, which was not possible with the new engine, but that was a short-term plan.

      I think the aircraft list will pan out alright. Team Fusion has been working on this for a long time and I think we’ll see a quality release on the aircraft front.

      You are right that there are questions I think on what the long term plan is. There could be a next gen plan coming for the whole of the IL-2 series that leverages Team Fusion and 1CGS. More than a few have suggested that. We’ll see what happens I guess!
