Originally intended to be released in Q1 of 2021, we haven’t heard all that much about the DCS: Mosquito project in a while. We do have some new information that’s surfaced so let’s have a look and see what the latest is.
Delayed and being reworked

On March 31st, Community Manager BIGNEWY posted a note on the DCS World Mosquito sub-forum indicating that the exterior model was being reworked.
…the team were not happy with the Mosquito model and have decided to redo it. This will mean we need some extra time before early access can start, at the moment our new plan is for Q2 2021.
We will of course keep you all informed as we progress if there are any other changes.
BIGNEWY
We haven’t heard too much since then except for a post on the r/Hoggit community about the module has attracted a few responses that give us a bit of an insight into how far along the rework is.
There was a bit of speculation that IL-2’s Mosquito FB.VI model was perhaps a reason why ED was looking at theirs and thinking that it needed additional work. Interesting speculation but nixed by this response from NineLine.
No, it has nothing to do with any other game, Nick personally kicked the model, he has grown up around WWII aircraft, knows their shapes, their lines and their looks. He expects them to be at a certain quality level, and nothing less, not for himself, but for what he thinks customers buying this module deserve. Thanks!
NineLine
Fair enough! Nick Grey does have extensive warbird experience and having direct access to one of the few Mosquitos around does give him a unique vantage point on how things should look and function.
Another poster asked about the status of the trailer to promote the pre-order and launch of the module.
I am sure we prefer to wait on the final model for the trailer, it shouldn’t be too much longer. Thanks.
NineLine
We once again have a response from NineLine indicating that the trailer will need to wait until they have the final model. A logical decision. Also notable that he said that it shouldn’t take too much longer.
While some have speculated that it may be a Q3 2021 launch (starting in July), it’s still possible that we’ll see it before then as well. With other work apparently continuing while the exterior model is completed.
The delay has not apparently affected the interior model which has been shown off quite a bit too.

That’s all we know at this point but I expect we should learn more sooner than later given the last quote that I pulled from the discussion. With luck, we’ll see the newest DCS warbird added to the sim with a high level of detail and lots of systems fully functional.
