First intro video for DCS: Mi-24P!

Matt Wagner has once again taken to YouTube and this time he’s doing an introductory video for the DCS: Mi-24P Hind. This is our clearest indication yet that the Mi-24 is nearing its early access release. The video comes with all kinds of interesting information so let’s get into it.

Hind details

As is customary, the first video in Matt Wagner’s series is typically an overview of the aircraft (or helicopter) itself with details on the weapons, engine, avionics, and overall features of the aircraft.

The description of the video contains much of the same script with notable features including the aircraft’s Isotov TV3-117VMA turboshaft engines which develop 2,200shp on each engine or the Hind P’s 335 kph top speed.

Also mentioned in the video are the 30mm autocannon with 250 rounds, S-5 55mm, S-8 80mm, S-13 122mm, and S-24B 24cm rockets, 9M114 “Shturm-V” and 9M120 “Ataka” anti-tank guided missiles, bombs, countermeasure dispensers and more. In short, the Mi-24P is well equipped.

Matt Wagner says that many of these weapons will be available on release while others such as the air-to-air R-60 missile will come during the early access period.

Also of note in the video are the various scenes which include some more looks at the new Marianas Islands map in the background – for when you’re not staring intently at the Hind itself.

Early access soon?

Typically it’s been a matter of weeks after the launch of an introductory video such as this one before the module itself comes out into early access. Occasionally longer but I suspect that the Hind is nearly ready for its debut.

If you’re willing to jump in during the early access period, there’s a nice 30% discount which brings the $69.99 USD price down to $48.99. That’s available on the DCS World e-Store.

Well at least that means it’s getting closer. I can’t wait to try this one out.

About to watch the video. Still on the fence with the Hind.

    Thanks for the heads up.

Are you much of a helicopter fan? I’m not but I’m slowly becoming one.

I like the helicopters, I’m just not that great at flying them. The weird always-on auto-pilot on the Ka-50 makes it perfect for me, I can fly that chopper well (kind of). The Huey not so much. So even though the Hind looks amazing cool, I’d run into the same problem of being a mediocre chopper pilot.

But I’d much, much prefer a Mosquito. 🙂

I totally understand that. I’ve spent the last several months, on and off, trying to learn the Mi-8 and UH-1. I’m slowly getting there with flying both of them so I’m hoping the Mi-24 is a lot of fun for me. But it will be a challenge!

I just bought the Ka-50 as well so that should be interesting too!

Hind is like a slimmed down Hip (similar to Huey vs Cobra).

Hip, and presumably, Hind, have decent auto-pilots (unlke Huey), so give those a shot if you like the way Black Shark takes care of you 🙂

Since the Hip, graphically, is out of date and not that great at maneuvering / attack-helo stuff, Hind should be a great replacement!

I’m gradually warming to the ways of the Mi-8. It’s still a beast that I haven’t filled tamed but I’m getting there with it.

This video was definitely a nice way to end the week!

No way this will replace Ka-50 for me, but it will definitely sit above the Hip. It’s a great balance of utility vs attack capability. Should be GREAT for multiplayer logistics missions, too 😉

Already pre-ordered. Now I’m just waiting for the Hind to arrive.

By the way, helicopters in VR are sooo cool!
