The folks at Team Fusion Simulations have started a new developer diary format which will seek to provide monthly status updates on IL-2 Sturmovik: Desert Wings including what their plans are for the future. We’ve got our first taste of this new diary update format and it brings with it some notable news for fans of VR.
VR and TrueSky headline new updates
The biggest news in the update is that Team Fusion now has a version of their sim running with both VR and with the new TrueSky cloud rendering system.
VR has long been asked for by the community and Team Fusion have long said that it’s a goal of theirs to bring VR to the platform. That’s very exciting news for fans of this sim. Here’s what ATAG_Pattle from the Team Fusion team had to say about this,
Firstly, an update on TrueSky and VR. While we don’t have any images to show you (yet!), and work is being affected by the ongoing global pandemic, substantial progress has been made on these two major updates. We now have a test version of the game that runs with both TrueSky and VR, enabling our teams to work towards refining these upgrades for public release.

That sounds encouraging and although we don’t have anything new to see just yet, I am looking forward to seeing what TrueSky can bring to the visuals of the sim.
TrueSky is a third party system that has been used in other games and sims including Ace Combat 7 which had class leading cloud rendering when it was released.
Other new content on the way
Team Fusion have been great about ensuring that their sim has ample single player content and they are continuing to develop new content for the sim.
Three new single player missions have been added in version 5.022. One is for Cliffs of Dover owners while the other two focus on Desert Wings. Each features several different skirmishes and a wide variety of aircraft are part of each scenario including some interesting interception operations against a He-115.
