We have new details on a new Scripted Campaign for single player pilots coming to IL-2: Great Battles later this summer as well as new details on the AQM or Advanced Quick Mission builder and a new look at the UK paratrooper for Battle of Normandy. Let’s have a look!
Steel Birds

Good news for single player campaign fans. The latest 1CGS developed Scripted Campaign from Alex “Blacksix” Timoshkov is coming soon and we now know about all kinds of new details about the campaign. It’s a Fw190A-5 campaign that puts you into the action as a flight commander in 5. Staffel of the II./Sch.G 1.
The campaign will focus on the April 14th to May 16th, 1943 time period during the Operation Neptune operation and the struggle for Novorossiysk on the black sea coast.
Except a lot of air-to-ground action with this campaign as the Fw190’s in this area (and with this unit) were often tasked for air to ground missions. That said, I’m guessing once the bombs are free that we’ll probably have to defend ourselves from enemy air assets too. Kuban was, after all, one of the most intense air battles of the eastern front.
Formal pre-orders will begin very soon and the campaign is slated for an August release date. Stay tuned for news on that!
Advanced Quick Mission builder
When IL-2: Battle of Stalingrad came out, it had a Campaign mode which let you pick an airbase, aircraft, and mission type and then you went out and flew that mission. The mode was criticized for not being more sophisticated and when 1CGS replaced it with the Career mode, a much more in-depth and persistent experience, there was a lot of cheering.
That said, I always lamented the quicker nature of the Campaign mode. You could hop in and do a mission without needing to create a pilot or manage your squadron. Don’t get me wrong, I love those features, but sometimes I need something quicker but also something more sophisticated than what the QMB can offer. Enter… the Advanced Quick Mission or AQM for short.
We’re getting our first look at the interface which is actually a step beyond what we got with the old system. There’s more details and seemingly more options. The frontline display is also great to see as it brings the wartime situations into the planning. I’m very excited to see this feature added to the sim and check it out.
Paratroopers!

We’ve got an excellent looking US paratrooper and so now its time for the UK equivalent. Droppable from the C-47, these UK troopers have their own distinct look and equipment. I love the attention to detail here and the ability to represent multiple forces during the Normandy invasion.

Super excited for the Advanced Quick Mission builder!!!

So looks like still limited in number of aircraft for the AMB? I would have liked to be able to create bigger fights in the air for more intense furballs.
Doesn’t look like it’s possible to add more flights beyond your own in the new AMB.
And is 6x planes per flight the maximum number?
Maybe might still need to rely on Vander’s QMB. Though for that planesets are confined to each specific map…would have liked to fly Spitfire IXs in the Kuban map.
