New DCS: AH-64D and Mosquito details

The two aircraft occupying a lot of attention right now over at Eagle Dynamics are the DCS: AH-64D and DCS: Mosquito FB.VI projects. Both are the focus of the latest DCS World Weekend News update. Let’s have a look!

Apache details

It’s always a good sign when Eagle Dynamics starts zooming in on the fine details and texture work on a nearly released product and that is where we’re getting to with the DCS: AH-64D Apache. This week we’ve learned that most of the details in the cockpit are done with some details coming soon including the pilot model, parking break, and a few other tweaks and clean-up items. Great!

And if that wasn’t enough to convince, a new teaser trailer has released showing quite a bit of the AH-64 in action including cockpit shots showing off avionics that are working and plenty of shots of the helicopter flying around.

Mosquito details too

We’ve learned a bit more about the Mosquito as well. Visual integration of the damage model is underway and that news came packaged with this screenshot. Another one is on display in the DCS World News update but hasn’t yet appeared in the screenshots section.

We’ve also learned some new information that includes news that the team is working on a “more precise” impact visual system. Might this be similar to the dynamic vehicle damage system that 1CGS is implementing on their aircraft and tanks? Perhaps. A lot of effort has been put into DCS WWII aircraft’s damage model before it expands out to other modules.

Here’s what ED had to say:

The final phase of DCS: Mosquito FB VI development is progressing well, this includes Damage Modelling integration. Given the Mosquito’s wooden structure; special attention is being made to the effects of different projectile types and the resulting aircraft handling changes. A more precise round impact visual system is being tested and we hope to be able to initially present this new technology for the Mossie at Early Access.
