Eagle Dynamics seems to be showing us more and more of their DCS: AH-64D project over the last few weeks with short teaser videos. Surely we’re building up to something more significant in the coming weeks. In the meantime we now have another look at the 30mm chain gun on the AH-64D.

Matt Wagner’s sneak peek

Focused on features, this new Matt Wagner sneak peek video gives us some more details about the weapon and about the simulation of it. The Area Weapon System (or AWS) consists of the M230 chain gun firing a 30mm round in both high explosive dual purpose rounds as well as training rounds. Effective range is given as 1,500-1,700 meters.

The video also tells us that the 1,200 ammo load option is available and that burst limits can be set via the weapons gun page. This video is our first real look at the avionics package although the view is fleeting.

Check it out!

This new video follows hot on the heels of the M230 chain gun showcase video which attracted a lot of attention this week. That video was more oriented at the audio and visual experience of using the weapon while Matt’s video was more detail oriented on the specifications and systems.

Here’s the previous video for reference.

      1. It’s definitely looking good. We’ve not yet seen the Hellfire or Hydra weapon systems yet. I’m betting we’ll see those relatively soon and that those will be part of a milestone that will take ED down the pre order path.

  2. Now all we need is a Kiowa for recon so they can work in tandem…

      2. I don’t think I’ve seen a Nicolas Cage movie since The Rock. Now that was a fun movie!
