Working their way through their extensive catalogue of aircraft that they have produced for other sims, Carenado has just unveiled the exterior model work on a Pilatus PC-12 that they are bringing to Microsoft Flight Simulator. Let’s have a look!
Flexible turboprop
The PC-12 is a interesting aircraft and one that offers a fair bit of flexibility. It’s Pratt & Whitney Canada PT6 turboprop engine gives it near business jet performance but it also has a short field and even rough field performance that most business jets don’t have. It has a roughly 1,800 nm range and it can cruise at 285 knots – pretty zippy!
I’ve spent a bit of time trying to ID the exact version that Carenado is doing. It’s likely an original PC-12 with a more basic avionics package as opposed the Honeywell glass panels that were introduced in the NG version nevermind the more sophisticated glass cockpit of the NGX. Carenado have previously offered an original variant PC-12 for X-Plane 11 and FSX/P3D so it stands to reason that this is the version they are doing here.

This is the problem with April Fool’s that legitimate announcements can become a problem. IMHO, Carenado maybe shouldn’t have announced it on that day and waited until the 2nd.
Nonetheless, this isn’t an April Fool’s joke and everything about the presentation is on brand for them.

Very cool turboprop; the unfortunate part is Carenado though… Love/hate seems to be the trend with their products. Personally I don’t care for their sounds and snail-paced bug fixes. But at least Milviz has a very good lineup instead, ah well.
