A D-Day salute with the B-26 AI for Battle of Normandy

IL-2 Executive Producer Jason Williams posted four new screenshots today as part of a D-Day salute. They feature the upcoming B-26 AI model and it’s looking good. Let’s have a look.

D-Day and Operation Overlord

On the morning of June 6, 1944, Allied forces landed on the beaches of Normandy in what would be one of the largest amphibious operations in history. A joint American, British and Canadian force would land at beaches codenamed Utah, Omaha, Gold, Juno and Sword.

In the air, Allied forces were given a new paint-job with alternating black and white stripes to make visual identification easier and thousands of aircraft would fly over the invasion site in support of the operation.

78-years later, we remember this historical moment and offer a salute.

Normandy salute

With IL-2 Sturmovik: Battle of Normandy being focused around this operation it only makes sense for a small tribute and an opportunity to have a quick look at some new upcoming content. Four new screenshots showing off the AI-only B-26 Marauder for Battle of Normandy have been released. And here they are!

The aircraft is planned for a future content update and will be available as an AI bomber type. At the moment there are no confirmed plans for this to become a flyable type, however, a great many people want it to become one alongside the B-25D already in the series. And you can count me in that line – looks good.

In the meantime, we offer a salute to the occasion, a solemn remembrance of the occasion.

Check out the update here.

Is is ironic, that “78-years later, we remember this historical moment and offer a salute” and, in doing so, promote a simulator from a Russian company who are paying taxes to the coffers of a warring power, against which Canadians are sending arms, and even personnel. Regardless of whether there is a sale or new product or whatever, I wonder what people will say of us in 78-years time. Assuming the messed-up world we live in still exists then.

If you want to think about real irony, and since we’re on a WW2 theme, then consider that American companies were awarded compensation for damages inflicted by bombing on nazi assets they had invested in*. I think that IL2 and its tiny team of formidable developers doesn’t even get a footnote in the Annals of Absurdity,

      * For example ITT (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ITT_Inc.#German_subsidiaries_in_the_Nazi_period)

Guys, I don’t think this is the site for political conversations. Shamrock maintains a refreshing environment of cheer and optimism that I really appreciate.

Thanks Blue 5. I’ve maintained a neutral stance on this site because I want to make this about flight simulation. If I wanted to do a geopolitics blog I would be doing that.

History I will talk about. Aircraft I will talk about. I haven’t shied from mentioning the Ukraine war and Russia’s invasion when it comes up in context.

And the rest is to be done in other contexts. There are plenty of places on the internet for that.

The world is a weird place. There’s more shades of grey than there is black and white.

For the context of this blog I will continue to report on flight sims, history, and I won’t shy away from the Ukraine war and invasion by Russia when there’s context for it. But this is a flight sim blog. I get my geopolitical comments out elsewhere.

Rock on, dude. We all read this for your news, observations and stories. I think most of us are aware that the world can suck but that is not why I think people flock here of a morning.

Even if it is for some people unconfortable and maybe for some not directly the topic Flightsim. “Mike” youre point is true. Promoting or playing Wargames, companies in wartime is controversy. It must be also aloud to give som commentary about that in the forums but also not let it dominate (here I understand “Shamrock”).

I wonder that I dont find something about 1C Game Studios and there Position or steps like the Company Wargaming does. Would be nice to have some information.
Inspecially for the and my personal future with IL-2. Very good game but cannot support it, if Im not clear about the mindset and financal future of the company.

I were schocked when I saw the tasteless “Z” Symbols in the IL2 Steamforum or on Server-Chats.

I wanted to comment that the B-26 looks fantastic and I cannot wait to have it in game but it feels like I am going Off Topic now… lol

It’s good to see the B-26 show up in such a detailed fashion. I want to fly one now 😉
