A few teasers for the complete Normandy map are coming at us from IL-2 Executive Producer Jason Williams. A few new screenshots plus some comments have been posted in recent days so let’s have a look!
Release coming soon
As is usually the way with the IL-2 series and the release of early access content, the map usually requires a couple of years to put together and is often the last or one of the last pieces of content to arrive. That is definitely true with Normandy with the map now going into testing after the IL-2 map team worked on it over the last few years. It’s release is surely on the way now as we learn that it has gone into testing.
Shared to a thread called Jason’s Briefing Room and Officers Club, this is an outlet where the Executive Producer often shares smaller updates or big picture pieces on where things are going.
First, on Thursday, Jason posted the following:
I just thought I’d share this image of the 410 I took this morning. When I first thought of the Normandy plane-set this image is what I had in my head. Just a cool looking aircraft. I’m so very glad to see it finally arriving.
This post was accompanied by this screenshot.

Then, early in the day today he posted some additional screenshots and a comment.
Playing around some more with the ME 410 tonight, except now it’s over the Normandy map swatting Mosquitos as it gets dark. I dig this plane. Yes, the Normandy map has gone into Alpha/Beta testing. Lots of small issues to fix, but it’s a real thing now.
Testing usually means that release is coming very soon. I wouldn’t expect it next week but over the next several weeks I think we’ll see this, the Me410 and then the V-1 and Career Mode all coming together.

It’s exciting times for fans of the IL-2 series as the final pieces of the puzzle for Battle of Normandy come together. More soon!
At about this stage of development Jason and Co release a video show casing the map. Hope they do the same soon with BON. I remember when they released that vid of the Spitfire Mk5 driving through clouds to a beatiful kuban coast line, then rolling over hills which were so new compared to Moscow and Stalingrad. Im really hoping for that wow moment again with a new map release.

I hope IL2 focuses on the early war after this title. I could think of a 1940 campaign vs France with 109D/E’s. Its interesting because its a part of the war that is often overlooked and truth be told: I am kinda disappointed by BON anyways, I don’t think its an interesting theater – but thats purely my opinion.
Also with 1940 this would basically mean you could go from 1940 to 1945 without huge breaks.

That would be an interesting scenario that is often not covered, however, I’m not sure in the financial viability. It’s little known although it has some very interesting airplanes.
Different strokes for different folks as I like to say but you really find nothing for you with Normandy? With types like the Mosquito, Typhoon, P-51B, Razorback P-47, and very unique types like the Me410 and Ju88C-6 rolled in there it’s like a best hits mix tape for me 🙂

1939-40 would be interesting, but I agree it can probably be discounted from a business perspective. Issue, possibly, from a data perspective for some of the types / sub-models.
Maybe a large collector’s pack?

That’d be interesting. A Collectors Pack? With some added aircraft for each battle in the series? I suppose that could be risky but interesting!

Any idea when the map will be released?
