Microsoft Flight Simulator is set to have a busy fall with two significant sim updates and plenty of new content yet to come. The latest developer update, out on Thursday, gives us a sense of where things are headed and I thought it was well past time to check in and highlight the big items that are coming.
Sim Update 10 and beyond
The next big update is Sim Update 10. This has been in the works for a while and it’s likely going to be one of two consequential updates for the series. Sim Update 10 will incorporate new DirectX12 updates to improve rendering under the new API as well as weather and system updates. The Working Title G1000NXi is also going to replace the current default G1000 system.
Sim Update 10 was originally slated for an August release, was then delayed into a mid-September timeframe and now has disappeared off the roadmap altogether. Here’s what they had to say about the delay:
We would like to give a sincere thank you to everyone who have participated in the Sim Update 10 beta over the last several weeks. Your feedback and reports have been very valuable in getting the update ready for its final version. Speaking of, we will have more information to share very soon about the release date for Sim Update 10.
MSFS Team
Also on the roadmap and scheduled for release on the week of the 26th is the next World Update. World Update 11 is a Canada focused update and according to the roadmap it will have the usual fanfare with a trailer for the update. Local Legend 7, not yet announced, is also due to launch the same day. To the best of my knowledge, we don’t know what Local Legend 7 will be as the DHC-2 Beaver has already been announced as part of the 40th Anniversary update.
Coming the week of October 17 will see the return of the Feature Discovery series with a not yet announced video there. The following week, October 24th, will also see the release of a Feature Discovery series and again we don’t yet know anything about that.
Then, the week of November 7 we should prepare for the anticipated launch of the 40th Anniversary Edition and Sim Update 11. This will be a massive update with new aircraft including an included high fidelity airliner (the A310 by iniSimulations), a pair of gliders, a pair of helicopters, and several historical aircraft.
Reno Air Race sale

The MSFS team are going to be live at the Reno Air Races this year (ending tomorrow) so if you’re there be sure to stop by. To celebrate the races, the Reno Air Race expansion for MSFS is currently 50% off in the marketplace.
The sale will end on September 19 so you have a short time to take advantage of it.
And that’s all, be sure to visit the latest developer update for more information.
Thanks for keeping is up to date as always!
