I’ve been away for a few days but I’m back and there’s a bunch of DCS news to write about so buckle up as we have a look at the latest announcements including the Italian G.91, some open beta updates, a end of summer sale, and more!

G.91 from IndiaFoxtEcho

IndiaFoxtEcho’s MB-339 is just about ready to release according to both the developers and now reported by Eagle Dynamics themselves in their latest DCS World Weekend News update. That clears the deck for these developers to do their next DCS project. This time its an Italian G.91 strike and recon fighter from the late 1950’s.

Originating from NATO’s lightweight strike fighter competition, the Fiat G.91 won the competition and the aircraft was then accepted into service with the Italian, German, and Portuguese air forces. Approximately 770 of these aircraft were built.

For many of you, the G.91 announcement isn’t a big reveal as we already knew that IndiaFoxtEcho were busy making this aircraft and that they were planning a DCS version. Nonetheless, with Eagle Dynamics now publicly announcing projects earlier in their dev cycle, a public announcement confirms the project.

IndiaFoxtEcho plan four versions:

• R1B (Italian version) with four 12.7 mm Browning M3 machine guns and two underwing hardpoints.
• R/3 (German Version) with two 30 mm DEFA M552 cannons and four underwing hardpoints.
• R/4 (Portuguese Version), hybrid version between R1B and R/3 with four 12.7 mm Browning M3 machine guns and four underwing hardpoints.
• PAN, aerobatic version converted from the A version for “Frecce Tricolori” Aerobatic Team.

Development appears to be already well underway on this project although DCS projects do take a considerable time to accomplish.

People have been asking and it is here now. The end of summer sale is now on and lasts until October 2nd at 23:59 GMT. Most modules get a 50% discount while more recent releases see a 25-30% discount. The sale is available on both the DCS e-Shop and on Steam.

Red Star shows off MiG-17

A small update from Red Star Simulations on their not yet confirmed DCS: MiG-17 module shows off the latest modeling detail. The update on their Facebook page indicates that the 3D model has been reworked using photogrammetry to ensure extremely accurate dimensions.

Open Beta update

A new DCS World Open Beta came out this past week. In it there are updates for a variety of missiles, a long list of fixes for modules, and the addition of the ability to jump between seats in a multiplayer AH-64. Check out the full change log here.
