Today, Microsoft released City Update 2 and Local Legend 9 for Microsoft Flight Simulator. These two updates come ahead of a planned avionics update which is also planned for later this week. Let’s have a look at everything going on!

City Update 2: France

The second City Update has been launched by the Microsoft Flight Simulator team with City Update 2: France. Several cities receive photogrammetry enhancements and new points of interest while a bespoke version of Le Bourget Airport (LFPB) is also added. LFPB is home to Paris Airshow which starts today so the timing is impeccable!

The City Update is free like other city and world updates and there’s also an update to World Update IV: France presumably to help integrate the two.

Local Legend 09: Latécoère 631

Microsoft Flight Simulator now has a couple of big flying boat options on offer and the Latécoère 631 is a very interesting addition to the series. The design first flew before WWII but its first examples did not survive the war. Reequipped with American sourced engines in the years following the war, the Latécoère 631 had a short and unsuccessful run as a long distance flying boat airliner primarily with Air France. None still exist, however, Microsoft Flight Simulator has brought it back to life!

Avionics updates coming this week?

Meanwhile, we’re expecting an update coming on June 22nd that will offer a significant update to the avionics of the bundled Boeing 747-8i and 787-900 Dreamliner aircraft in Microsoft Flight Simulator. The Working Title group, previously responsible for their extensive updates to the Garmin GPS systems in the aircraft featured all over the sim, had set their sights on these two airliners producing considerably more depth and accuracy to the airliner experience with them.

Microsoft report that they are set to release AAU2 on Thursday, June 22.

  1. You know, I hope they do a Boeing 314 Clipper for one of their local legends updates. Maybe for Africa? Can you picture doing the west-ward trip from New Zealand to New York? Actually could possibly do it for a New York Local Legend too?

You know, next time they refresh Japan, they could do a C-2 Greyhound. They were one of the first responders to one of the 2011 Tohoku earthquake. Apparently they could get into air fields that were inaccessible to other planes, or had been otherwise disabled by the impacts of the earthquake.
