Just in-case you missed it in all of the excitement last night with the endless string of announcements at FSExpo 2023, Microsoft has released Famous Flyer #6 to the Marketplace and for the first week its absolutely free to purchase. I have the details!

Enjoy the Trimotor

It took me a long time to really get onboard with what Microsoft, Asobo and their partners were doing with the Local Legends and Famous Flyers series but I’ve come to appreciate the work that they have done to preserve and recreate these aircraft as digital museum pieces. Most of these aircraft have varying levels of depth and detail but most of them are best enjoyed from the perspective of experiencing the joy of flight and the history of each plane.

Its in that spirit that I was overjoyed to experience the Ford 4-AT Trimotor which, for a short time is available in the marketplace for free! Here’s what Microsoft had to say.

For the next week, this classic is available for FREE to simmers! From June 23 to June 30 at 11:59 PM PDT, it can be downloaded at no charge from the in-sim Marketplace. From July 1 onward, it will be available for USD $14.99.

As soon as the words were out of Jorg’s mouth during the FSExpo presentation, I was on the Marketplace and sure enough it was free.

After the presentation I even took the Trimotor out for a quick spin around the Houston area in recognition and connection to the ongoing FSExpo 2023. A quick review will be forthcoming but in the meantime enjoy the screenshots and go pick it up the next time you spin up MSFS… remember its free until June 30 at 11:59 PDT.

  1. Good thing I kept my hopes up that the Ford Trimotor would come to the game and held off getting the Fokker Trimotor — it looks good but the former is cooler.
The reason for the three engines is so if an engine failed, the passengers wouldn’t be worried that the other engine would fail.

Never expected we could get the Ford Trimotor for free but here we are.

There’s a bunch of things about this that aren’t really correct. The TriMotor is quite similar to the Fokker F.VIII. So much so that Fokker successfully sued Ford when the airplane was touted for sale in Europe.

All of this happened prior to Hitler and the Nazi parties rise to power. By that point Fokker had been reestablished as a Dutch company.

  4. I flew this plane in VR tonight and really enjoyed sightseeing in it. To me it feels like the missing piece from the 40th Anniversary upgrade pack; and looking at it in that light, the Ford Trimotor is my new favorite among all of the Asobo ‘free’ aircraft. (BTW, did you notice the rotating knob by the primer control that changes the instrument panel configuration?)
