Other DCS: Mirage 2000 variants, Rafale, exist within the French Air Force?

Alright folks, this one is firmly in the rumour/unconfirmed area but I thought I’d report on it because there’s just enough information to pique my interest on this. According to a post on the r/Hoggit group, other DCS Mirage 2000 variants as well as the Rafale exist and are being used for training purposes. Eyebrows raised? Let’s have a look.

More Mirages?

A post on r/Hoggit, shared by IndividualReach3207, mentions word that the French Air Force, at the Paris Air Show which occurred over the last week, was presenting a specialized DCS setup that included a playable Mirage 2000N and that the French Air Force (Armée de l’air et de l’espace or ‘AdA’) was developing both -5 and Rafale for training purposes.

Here’s the post:

Spoke with a DCS player who works in the french air force at the Paris Air Show, he was presenting a DCS setup with the Mirage 2000 N playable in it, he said that the Air Force was developing M2000N and -5 as well as the Rafale, and more interestingly that they intended to make the mirages module available to the public once they were a bit more polished and the planes were out of use in the ADA.

Not very precise info but some nice news some of you may like.

Information like this does not come up all the time but it does from time to time. Then we saw an image of what is clearly not the Mirage 2000C’s cockpit but another variant with an MFD screen on the left side.

DCS professional use

This isn’t the first time that we’ve heard about DCS World and customized versions of the sim being used for professional military training. We’ve learned from Eagle Dynamics themselves that a variety of air forces around the world use the sim for various kinds of training scenarios and some modules, such as the DCS: A-10C, emerged from efforts to create a high fidelity training platform.

We’ve known too that RAZBAM and the AdA have had a cozier relationship in recent years with French pilots making use of their M2000C module for training and that modifications to the M2000C were in part originated by requests from the AdA to improve the module. We all benefited from that and we may yet again if these modules eventually go from something exclusive to AdA training regimes and into public use.

The one thing we don’t know is if RAZBAM had a hand in their creation or if it was a separate effort. Given RAZBAM’s previously close ties it may be that they have been developing these variations. Something all but confirmed thanks to an even older post with a mention by RAZBAM’s Prowler on their Discord about a M2000-5 version.

Nothing imminent, nothing confirmed, but enough breadcrumbs to cause me to raise an eyebrow.

This came out a while ago. Possible but unclear whether others are following a similar path, but the USAF’s move towards greater sim at a lower level would speak to use of a consumer-grade sim with specific features.

Tye new T-7 comes with a host of sim elements for ground-based training, as obviously does the F-35.

M.2000 out of French service quite soon, but not for export customers so some tweaking might be required to ensure that they are not compromised.

What came out a little while ago? Paris Airshow was just this past week.

I’m sure some levels of inaccuracies can be introduced to ensure classified capabilities stay classified should they make the jump to public consumption.

That the French were using DCS for basic Mirage training / various purposes but had a bespoke version. That was stated a year or more ago.

Releasing something is certainly new news.

Right. Yea that part isn’t really a new thing but the reveal of specific models and the small chance that they may become public… interesting and intriguing!

Dang, the Title of the article really got my excited for a minute. The M2000 is my favourite module in DCS. I would love the updated version more than anything else that is known to be coming to the sim. However, if we’ll only get to see it (if at all) once the planes were out of use in the ADA, then we’ll be waiting a long time. So I’m not going to hold my breath. But one can only hope.

A decent BVR would be great. A -5 with MICA IR and RF would bring it up to contemporary standard.

Launching a medium range active radar and an IR would be a git to counter. Burn energy dodging the first but not know from where is coming the second

That’d be a very interesting combo!

Given the MICA has a data-link and ability for 3rd party guidance, I rather think that would be a fairly standard tactic for a pair.

Yeah I wouldn’t hold your breath but at the same time there’s a glimmer of hope. Good to hold onto!

Back in 2022 i was fortunate enough to go to the edwards afb air show and there they where using an f-22 sim in dcs. However due to my limited time there i didnt get to play it but from the few seconds i saw it looked much more complete them the f-22 mod we currently have. Maybe in the next 10 years or more with the ngad coming out and the f-22 phasing out theyll release it. Only time will tell

The cockpit on the screen of the simpit is 100% sure to be Mirage 2000D.

Mirage 2000N is withdrawn from use, so there is no interest into developing it.😉
