This DCS World Weekend has some helpful reminders about their free-to-play program, a call to server communities to get themselves featured in future newsletters and a two nice little tidbits of information about multiplayer GUI for DCS World – changes that I welcome!

Two changes for the better

I do wish they had uploaded a higher resolution example of the changes but squint hard enough and you can see that a new bar has been added to the multiplayer select role screen. The new feature lets you search or filter by availability, unit type, position, and airfield. That should make the long scrolling lists of aircraft and airbases significantly easier to manage.

Filters can also be set to show only modules that you own, which are hot start and cold start, and even search for your friends names on the list.

This is great change and a much needed tweak to the system, however, its the second upcoming change that has me more excited.

As a second step, we plan to improve the interface after joining the server with additional interaction right on the map. Please follow the news for more details coming soon. 

Map interaction! I’ve wanted this for a long time!

One of the best parts of IL-2’s multiplayer interface is that you both select an airplane and get a sense of the tactical situation all at once. In DCS World you don’t necessarily have much to go on without jumping through a few extra hoops to try and see what the map situation is and where specific airbases are.

I’m glad to see a serious UI/UX issue get resolved here and I look forward to both the first update as well as the second one.
