Team Fusion to make TF 6.0 DLC announcement next month

Those wondering what the next step along the road for Team Fusion Simulations and their efforts to develop the IL-2 Sturmovik: Cliffs of Dover series won’t have to wonder for too much longer as the team have mentioned announcement plans on the IL-2 forums. Let’s have a look at the announcement and what we know so far.

News coming next month

Team Fusion Simulations team member Buzzsaw posted a special note on the IL-2 forums late this past week indicating that the team were nearly ready to show off the next step in the evolution of the IL-2 Sturmovik: Cliffs of Dover Series. Team Fusion Simulations had previously released the Cliffs of Dover Blitz update a few years ago and more recently developed the Desert Wings – Tobruk DLC package. The next DLC has been in the works for some time and the upcoming announcement means that we’re going to learn very soon what they have in store.

I have received confirmation from Fulqrum the Announcement of the scenario and content for the TF 6.0 DLC will be made in the first two weeks of September. 

Buzzsaw on the IL-2 forums

Fulqrum is, as some of you may remember, the current day publisher of the IL-2 series having been renamed in 2022 during the Tencent acquisition of the 1C company. With the recent turbulence over the last year with the series there was concern over what Team Fusion Simulations would ultimately be able to do. Fortunately, it appears that they have been able to press forward.

A teaser, posted back in June, asked us to identify the aircraft in the picture. It didn’t take long for the community to guess that this is a Fw190A-1 – distinguished from later marks by the MG17 machine guns in the inner wing roots (with the A-2 and beyond all armed with the MG151/20 cannons).

Continued work on the series

More recently released screenshots meanwhile show off a Beaufighter with the upgraded scenery textures and the most recent iteration and evolution of the new cloud technology on full display.

    I got into the VR beta for Cliffs of Dover / Tobruk, and while I can’t talk about the VR implementation specifically, it’s been really great playing CLoD / Tobruk. There are a bunch of things that older sim does that I think have been lost in some of the newer sims.

    The spotting mechanics work better. Maybe it’s the simpler graphics, but I have a way way easier time spotting aircraft and identifying aircraft in CLoD than I do in IL2 or DCS.

    The AI feels way better implemented. You can actually sneak up on enemies from below and behind, AI chatter on the radio is useful, the Germans will attack in groups, stay in groups, and leave when low on fuel in groups.

    The scale of the battles is fantastic. There is something really intense about rushing to help a fellow squadron getting attacked by 20 109s, diving in and then trying to survive. 40-50 planes in a furball isn’t something I’ve ever done in IL2 or DCS.

    Fighting 109s with just rifle caliber guns is an experience… it’s really hard to tell when you’ve done damage at all. Is that 109 diving away from me? or just dying? Well, I’m not going to follow him down, I’ve got to stay up here where I have some energy. The debrief shows I hit him 135 times? Okay, I guess I did more than I thought!

    You are outclassed by the 109s by a pretty big margin, but their fuel limits what they can do, so if you stay defensive, stay with your wingmen, and watch your six, you can absolutely survive in hurricane.

    Engine damage feels more realistic as well, I’ve blown oil gaskets running my engine too hard, and it’s bad, but it’s not the instant dead engine from IL2. The sounds from a damaged engine are fantastic.

    Overall, while it’s an older game showing it’s age, it does really provide a unique WW2 combat experience.

      Please talk about the VR implementation!!! I bought CLoD on sale about 18 months ago, but haven’t played since I only fly in VR. I realize that your hands are tied, but I think there are probably a lot of people who are waiting for VR implementation.

        VR is still in Betatesting and there is one major showstopping Bug, preventing its release. Once its squashed, they will release. But trust me, releasing it in its current state would harm the project more, than benefit.

    One thing that ticks off non-Vr/Headtracking players like me about the VR crowd is that on every update the only question is avariety “Ok, cool buuuuttt, WHAT ABOUT VR!!!!”
    Every. Damn. Time!

    You are still a minority in simming, but a very loud one at that. After Tobruk an incremental patch schedule would’ve done wonders for keeping up momentum and fixing some issues, like massive tearing especially on the prop wirh framelimiters at 75+ fps.
    And vwync defaulting to 60 hz/fps.
    New menues and tools, the graphics update.
    Instead a big ammount of development time has gone inzo VR, blotting out the other stuff.

    Meanwhile you say we will come once it’s got VR, but aren’t appreciate the other efforts, while we have to hold down the fort.
    And it’s getting ever harder to persuade people to play this, because of the low playercount, which has been dwindling for the last two years and some issue with input.

    That’s got to be demoralizing for the devs, as surely as it is for others and me.

    Might be nice if you’d show up once in a while.

    We have a sim here that at it’s core does a lot of things better than BoX/GB, but it’s hard to be heard over the stampede of “Great Battles isbetter in everyregard”-GB fanboys, due to our low numbers.

    What does CloD/Tobruk better?

    Scratching the old IL-2 itch! It’smore like Forgotten Battles than GB, it allows for it’s great scale.
    Better AI, superiorsoundscape, including stress groaning from the aircraft, which alertsyou to problems earlier.
    The flight models do not feel as damped, engine simulation is serious business, gun recoil is a thing, seriously so on the MK. IIc Hurricane.
    Gameplay is more objective focused and the radio system actually works and is useful.
    Damage modelling is in a whole different league, use 4x20mm on a Stuka and you will see parts or wings come of. Hell I’ve seen guel tank explosions.

    Meanwhile in GB an AI P-51 can eat 3 30mm shells from the MK108 of a 109 and only suffer radiator and oil cooler damage with maybe a flap torn off.
    No internal control damage or serious structure damage as it should.

      I’m not sure why you’d have such a beef with people who are waiting for the VR implementation. For some of us, we simply cannot/do not wish to fly without it. The bottoms line, is that it’s a personal choice, you might well be a fanboy of the sim in its current form, that’s your choice, others are not but are stating they would likely exercise their preference by returning to the game if it was offered. I don’t understand the childish sneering at VR folk for simply exercising that preference.
