X-Plane aircraft developer Aerobask have become well known for a selection of high quality and sometimes quirky aircraft that really embrace the more experimental side of the aviation world. One of their next aircraft, reportedly coming soon, is the Shark UL. There are also some worrying developments on the Falcon 8X.

Ultralight Shark

Created by Shark.Aero and built in both Czechia and Slovakia, the Shark UL is an ultralight airplane with a 300km/h or 160 knot top speed. We saw early work in progress screenshots back in 2021 and now Aerobask are nearing the end of their project as this video reports that the Shark UL.

The video, linked above, shows off the airplane inside and out with the usual quality presentation that we’ve seen from Aerobask products in the past. This one is somewhat unique as it comes with Dynon Skyview and other customized instruments.

Product shuffling and Falcon 8X news

Originally planned to come after their Falcon 8X project, Aeroabask have recently reported that a couple of other projects have now moved forward on their schedule while their Falcon continues to be developed. A series of questions and answers were provided by Lionel from the Aerobask team reporting on the need to produce other products.

Because we need money for paying our bills and working on the Falcon without releasing new aircraft is no more sustainable (we tried but we’re running out of cash).

It does sound too that not only are Aerobask concerned with finances but the Falcon 8X project itself may be in jeopardy. The team have spent years developing the project and are working with Dassault to make the project happen. Answering the question on if the Falcon will continue to be developed, Lionel gave us this answer.

Yes, and of course we hope so. At some point, and because we cannot develop forever without resources, we hope being authorized to sell it in beta access. If this is refused we may have to cancel the project.

Things do sound like they are a bit dire with Aerobask right now and I do hope that the Shark UL and other projects help to improve finances. My reviews of their Legacy RG, Phenom 300, DA42, DA50 RG and DA62 will tell you how impressed I’ve been with their products. They’ve only improved over time. I do hope that they continue on and hope that things are not maybe quite as dire as it sounds.

I wonder if releasing for MSFS would be an alternative to them. Takes time too, but has a much bigger market.

  3. Aerobask. I think it is sad that they still force their users to use this very specific Hardware based activation system.
Other developers like for example Hotstart make use of an authentication system too, but in my opinion it is way better.
Today I added another M2 2TB drive into my computer. I often like to change, improve my setup. I feel like Aerobask is able to make really great modules, they should be able to come up with a better protection system, that doesn´t force users to treat their computers like a gaming console.

Apart from that, yes Aerobask planes are often very cool.

The activation system has more to do with the X-Plane ORG storefront that has been using the same system for a very long time. It does feel a bit antique compared to newer more modern storefronts.

      1. And yet there isn´t a single plane/helicopter that is being sold by VSKYLABS at the ORG Store that makes use of this system. I am not 100% but isn´t Thranda behind this activation/encryption system that Aerobask is using?

I understand that when addons are new Aerobask wants to protect them, but I think that after 18 to 24 months maybe there could be an update removing the activation system.

      2. I’m 75% sure my last VSkyLabs purchase used the same system. Most of them do. I’m not sure who runs the key system but I’ve never seen Thranda’s name associated with it (not to say that they didn’t… just never seen the connection). They also use the same system.

It’s old but frankly it’s never been an impediment to using the aircraft. Punch in the key and done.
