Matt Wagner is back at it again with some new videos for us to watch and learn from. These latest tutorial and feature focused videos talk about new features and functionality for the DCS: F-16C and for the DCS: AH-64D. The later, the Apache, is all about the Fire Control Radar (FCR) which is coming to the attack helicopter soon. Let’s have a look!

New features for F-16C

Some new features are on their way to the DCS: F-16C in an update coming soon.

The first that Matt Wagner goes over is Laser Spot Search (or LSS) and Laser Spot Track (or LST). Matt Wagner uses it in context of operating together with a JTAC but this feature could easily be used with a buddy lase setup as well from other compatible designating aircraft.

The F-16C is getting some new weapons. These include the LAU-68 and LAU-131 rocket pods as well as the AIM-9P, AIM-9P3 and AIM-9P5 Sidewinder variants. The P5 has limited all aspect capability while the other two are rear aspect IR missiles.

There are also some other smaller updates such as a HUD indication of target masking on the targeting pod as well as some behaviour changes to dogfight mode and Sidewinder acquisition.

Brushing up on the Fire Control Radar for AH-64D

Three new videos have come out in the last few days with all of the focus going into the AH-64D’s Fire Control Radar or FCR. These FCR focused tutorials start with radar pages and controls which is covered in this first video.

Then a how-to on configuring the FCR with prioritization and weapons engagement is covered in the second video.

Then finally, in the third video, Matt shows off how to use the FCR from the backseat in a training/combat scenario. The Cliffs Notes reference in the thumbnail is an indication that this is a kind of shortened summary or overview of using the weapons in a combat situation.

  1. Not sure if the new Sidewinders are worth the effort, but more weapons is good weapons I guess.

Amazing plane though. It’s a helluva module!

    1. I’m wondering if some folks are using it as a stand in for a F-16A model. Strip out the pods, the AMRAAMs and the all aspect Sidewinders and it’s a bit more of a 1980s dogfighter.

      1. Good point, and they are certainly allowed to have their fun.

While I like the classic jets – give me an F-104 please! – I really like the advanced stuff with the funky MFDs and the tech toys. This is why I like the F-15E so much. My Space Shuttle of Death. 🙂
