A remaster of the original B-17 Flying Fortress: The Mighty 8th Redux is now out and available to try in an early access format. This remaster of the original is sure to capture some attention thanks to the Apple+ TV show Masters of the Air. Let’s have a look.
Remastered classic
Think of this as more of a aircraft management sim rather than a combat flight sim in the vein of IL-2 or DCS World. The B-17 Flying Fortress : The Mighty 8th Redux is a remaster of the sim that was released in 2000. To be clear, this release is considered early access with the note on the Steam store page for the game indicating that the development team intends to spend 6 months to a year developing additional pieces of the game.
The game lets you take on different roles around a B-17 Flying Fortress, participate in historical campaigns and missions, quick start missions, and training missions. The remaster includes updated interiors to the B-17, new crew models, an aspect ratio change that supports modern 16:9 monitors, new user interface and music, and more.

Additional work during early access is expected to further update the art and assets with the B-17 exterior and fighter exteriors being improved, new missions added, a new game manual, and larger aircraft formations.
The game debut has seen mixed reactions by reviews on Steam with some praising the re-release of an old classic while others expressing frustration with missing or buggy features. Some are reporting performance issues as well. As it develops it may be able to surmount these early access challenges but we’ll have to see how that goes.
You can buy B-17 Flying Fortress : The Mighty 8th Redux for $13.49 USD (with a 10% discount currently on) on Steam and on GOG..com.
