It’s not the news anyone was hoping to hear this morning but we’ve received official word that the next DCS World patch has been delayed by 24-hours while the Eagle Dynamics team solves a problem discovered late in testing. Here’s what we know.
Phantom caught up in the delay
Eagle Dynamics used the term “blocking issues” in relation to the problem discovered with the build that was supposed to release today. This language is typically used to denote a serious enough issue that releasing the software would not be ideal.
While I’m sure frustration is no doubt settling over the community over the delay, it is unfortunately the case where this sort of thing happens and the alternative is usually never a good thing.
The patch update thread, managed by ED community manager BIGNEWY has been updated with the following statement:
Dear all, during final checks some blocking issues were found and we will require some time to resolve them. We want the F-4E launch to be the best experience it can be so delaying for one day is the best option, thank you for your understanding and patience.
Meanwhile we’ve heard word that the blocking issue is not with the Phantom itself but with something else in the update. DCS World updates do, as most of you know, cover a wide range of core code and module updates and a serious blocking issue in one of those areas could cause problems across a wide range of situations. We don’t know the details right now beyond that but a 24 hour delay is anticipated.
I know excitement for the Phantom and the update has likely turned to frustration by now but hopefully a short delay in a long saga of the release of this highly anticipated module will be just a minor bump in the road.
