This week’s DCS World Weekend News update is focused on the CH-47F Chinook helicopter. The early access helicopter needs a bit of attention and it looks like the next update is packing in a mix of visual updates, system updates, and features. We’re also being reminded of the imminent end of the End of Summer Sale. Let’s have a look!
Visual and system improvements for Chinook
Last week it was the F-16 and F/A-18 in the spotlight, this week its the CH-47F Chinook which looks set to receive some much needed attention in the new update.
Some of those updates focus on the avionics with the addition of an ARC-164 radio, a fuel display on the HSD, HSD zoom features, wind arrow and speed, and a new COMM page on the SYST menu just to name some of the updates. There’s also colour corrections for some types of information displayed and a more accurate flight plan line.
There’s also some new liveries for Japan and Turkey being added, new pilot models, first person view pilot models, updated gunners with a new ramp gunner, optional M240H machine guns, a new gunner’s control window, and corrected AI gunner behaviour for player controlled gunners. There’s also some fixes for freezing in multiplayer, support for Force Feedback joysticks, Night Vision Goggles for gunners, and an improved steering animation.
This is all planned for the next update. After that there’s still work going on with the Digital Advanced Flight Control System (DAFCS) and Longitudinal Cyclic Trim (LCT). Those I suspect will be highly sought after features so I’ll be keeping close tabs on when those arrive.
