Emerald Scenery Design have released a new airport scenery for Microsoft Flight Simulator. This one is 67FL Bald Eagle Airfield / Myakka Head located in Florida to the south east of Tampa Bay. It’s an airport with some fame and history around it and I thought it’d be fun to do a little exploring of the area while I check out the scenery.
Disclaimer
Emerald Scenery Design sent me Bald Eagle Airfield- Myakka Head to have a look at. No strings attached. As always, my opinions are my own!
Lets look around the airport
67FL is an FAA recognized private airstrip first constructed by Marvin Taylor. The 3,400ft grass airfield has been well known among flight simmers in the past but has recently gained even more notoriety when YouTube star Cleetus McFarland bought the air strip.
Located on the field are a pair of hangars that Emerald Scenery Designs have applied their usual techniques and technology to.
The hangars have lots of details inside including a working clock and working hangar doors which open and close. There’s also a Tiger Moth setup as a static airplane in one of them.
The grass strip has rows of golf-balls as markers on the side and there’s a ton of small details to the grass and plants along the edges of the strip. Like most Emerald Scenery Designs scenery, this one has its share of wildlife with an alligator that hangs out at the one end of the strip and a wild boar that I have yet to spot. Owl and insect sounds also can be heard depending on the time of day and weather conditions.
There’s also a secondary hangar has additional spawn points for aircraft, front gate details (with the airports name on it), high tension wires located at the end of the strip that provide a bit of an obstruction, and tons of other little details. Also, located nearby is another unlisted airstrip with its own hangar which I’ll be looking at in a separate article.

Going sightseeing
For this flight, I took out the Husky A1C bushplane. This early release from Asobo Studio was one of the first payware aircraft I bought and I haven’t flown it in quite some time so I thought now would be a good time to get it back out and fly.
Spawning inside one of the hangars, the hangar door immediately registered my presence and began to open up. While that was happening I was working on getting the engine started and looking around the airport.
My mission for the day was to takeoff successfully from the airport and then head north west to Tampa Bay and survey the scenery there before looping back and landing again at 67FL. This area, of course, was recently savaged by Hurricane Milton but none of that will show in the sim. My thoughts remain with the folks affected by the weather there.
Back into the sim, takeoff on the 3,500 foot grass runway was easy for any bushplane (and you can bring warbirds in here too) but if you did choose to fly something with a longer takeoff run you would need to watch out for the power lines at the end of the runway.

Once up in the air I looked around the area and then set course north. This section of Florida sports very high resolution imagery these days and Tampa Bay sports photogrammetry so the whole area, including several industrial sectors, looks more or less the way it does in real life. Very cool!

After flying around the area, it was about twenty minutes flight back. Spotting the airport takes a bit of doing and unless you know the small lake to use as a landmark, the largely flat terrain here is somewhat difficult to navigate by. But once spotted the lengthy runway is an easy one to land at with small bush planes.

I’ll be back to check out this scenery and a couple of Florida based freeware options too. Stay tuned for those journeys!
