Following the launch of DCS: Iraq earlier in the week, the latest DCS World Weekend news update is focusing back on DCS: Afghanistan. This latest update gives us a good look at the eastern section of the map and some of the work going into making it a reality. There’s also a new sale, hot on the heels of the last one, with plenty of discounts.
Afghanistan update incoming

Eagle Dynamics report that DCS: Afghanistan East will be coming into early access soon. This will be available for separate ownership or, if you own the whole map, will be added on as part of the full price option.
They are currently working on a series of airfields including some well known airbases at Bagram and Kabul.

They are also working on points of interest, road network, adding settlements, agricultural zones, and industrial areas. It’s reportedly more extensive than any previous DCS map.
They are also improving ground textures and using new algorithms for more detailed normal maps.
Interesting to note as well is that the Afghanistan map has been extended further south. While these areas will be lower in detail, it does extend down to the Arabian sea. If you’re a dedicated naval operations flyer and you want to make the long treks inland over Pakistan and into Afghanistan, you will now be able to do so.

Winter Sale
Hot on the heels of the Black Friday sales, we have the DCS Winter Sale with discount pricing available on most modules. A few more recently released modules are not on sale but many popular modules such as the DCS: F/A-18C or DCS: Mi-24P Hind are.
The sale is on now and ends January 6th.
