Freeware Airbus A330-900 developer Headwind Simulations now has a second teaser trailer out advertising an update to their A339X project that, among other features, includes a revamped cockpit. Let’s have a look!

Improving experience

With a custom A330-900 exterior and a modified A320neo cockpit to fit, Headwind Simulations A339X project has continued to refine their freeware airliner. For a long time, it was the only A330 available in the sim and with support from the FlyByWire A32NX project, the aircraft was reasonably well equipped with systems. Now the project is set to make a step forward with a revamped cockpit, revised tablet, and new features.

The developers themselves report that the cockpit is not an entirely new model or full A330 cockpit but that they are happy that it’s a step forward. Being a freeware project, of course, means a different set of expectations versus a payware project. Still, the project continues to develop steadily.

The update is expected to arrive this Friday, January 24, in a update through their installer/launcher.

Here’s the latest teaser trailer for the aircraft.

And the one released a few weeks ago.

You can download the A339X from the Headwind Simulations for free for Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020. MSFS 2024 support is also reportedly in the works.

  1. The Headwind A330neo looks really good, and it is near full fidelity which is nothing short of impressive for a freeware addon. But I hope some third party developer does a 99-100% full fidelity A330neo and I think FSLabs should be the one to do it. I say this because a) FSLabs needs to heal it’s reputation and by doing a modern aircraft like could make FSLabs get its reputation back as a leading company in making realistic virtual airliners, b) I believe FSLabs does a superb job on their aircraft for MSFS by making their aircraft as realistic as possible even though I know it has only been one so far and c) FSLabs mentioned that they were looking into making a wide body airliner and the A330neo (though not so much the -800) seems to be a relevant candidate in today’s era.

    1. FS Labs will never recover their reputation from the malware scandal. Many will never forgive them for that. And with Fenix jumping into the market with a better A320 for a lower price that also works in 24, FS Labs is already too late with their A320. The only product I would get from them is the Concorde as it is truly magnificent. However, that’s currently only available for P3D. Fenix should be the ones to do the A330neo if anyone. Or iniBuilds. But this is still great for a freeware product.

I’m very happy to see plenty of interesting freeware options in the market. I’ve been meaning to spend a bit of time with Headwind’s A330.

On the FSLabs thing it does show that a reputation once earned can linger for a long time. If their intent is sincere to shed that negative image, they will hopefully continue in a positive direction. They may outlive it yet!

One of the first things I look for in a new release of a multiengine airplane, is if the engine indications mirror each other, or if they display independent values. And yes ,they differ! A labor of love!
