Emerging onto the scene a couple of years ago, Check Six Simulations had announced efforts to bring an Australian based map as well as a PC-9/A trainer. Those plans appear to have become untenable as the developer has announced that they are no longer continuing.

Map and aircraft development halted

Sometimes development goes according to plan and sometimes it doesn’t and according to Check Six Simulations, announced via a post on Discord and then copied to the DCS World forums, development has been halted on DCS projects.

Here’s what they had to say:

Dear DCS Community,
It is with a heavy heart that we at Check Six Simulations regret to inform you that we have made the extremely difficult decision to cease development of all DCS products effective immediately and close down the business. This is a result of solely internal matters within Check Six. We would like to take the chance to thank the community and ED, for all the ongoing support and feedback throughout our development. We wish the very best for the DCS community moving forward, onwards and upwards. Thank you

Check Six Simulations had previously announced DCS: Top End of Australia, a 1,400 x 800 km map that included RAAF Darwin and RAAF Tindal bases on it. They had also announced a PC-9/A turboprop trainer aircraft that was to be developed as a companion piece.

Both projects are presumably shuttered at this point based on the announcement above.

Check the DCS forums for more commentary.

  1. That’s too bad. Not crazy about the map idea, but the PC-9 sounds like it would have been fun.

  2. As a Aussie that’s a shame. Most of my Family live in Northern territory and it’s an Awesome place with Amazing places. My first Add on for flight sim back in the day was the PC9 and I was in a virtual squadron that checked you out in the PC9 at Pierce Airforce base in Queensland once you were checked out you could move on to one of the other RAAF Aircraft. I choose the Caribou and we would do all sorts of great flights. Very Nostalgic . I know that it was controversial as there were few historical battles in that region and people get touchy about that. But I think it would of been great fun anyway. All the best to all the folks from check six and best of luck to your future endeavors.

  3. Ah, nuts. I was a little pessimistic about this – not sure who it would appeal to outside fellow Australians – but was hoping it would get up. With the Hornet, and a potential DCS Mirage III, could have made a pretend RAAF career, lol.

  4. Feels like it’s not going to be entirely missed that they are bowing out tbh – i never got the why for it (and I live in Australia) and the PC9 didn’t interest me. Now if they had been doing a delta lady of the 3rd kind I would have been very disappointed (I really want to see that in DCS one day)

  5. Very sad news!

I was rather ambivalent about the map (would’ve just waited for a sale), but the PC 9 was definitely a Day 1 buy.

And now MilViz/BlackBird have apparently pulled their T-6 Texan II from MSFS v2024!!!

    Nobody likes modern trainers…?

    1. There are already a few trainers in the sim, so it’s tough to bring something similar without making a loss.

      1. There are exactly zero turboprop trainers (or turboprops of any kind) in the sim.

this would’ve been a unique experience in the sim, the enjoyment of which would only be limited by its old school steam gauge cockpit.

While it’s true that trainers aren’t a popular item, devs keep making them, so there’s something there…

      2. It would be an interesting experience. I was looking forward to the Super Turcano as a turboprop trainer and light combat aircraft. Could have been quite fun but I don’t think we’ll see that any time soon.

One day DCS will get a turboprop!

  6. Sad news, sad loss. I hope for the best for the professionals that took part of Check Six.

I’m not much of a trainer jet customer but the PC-9 would be one of the few exceptions I would make to purchase because of its similarities with the Super Tucano and an unique experience of a light CAS turboprop in DCS.

    1. I’m still hoping for a light attack turboprop of some kind some day. Super Turcano was very interesting to me too.

  7. I was not interested in the map or the module, but I have heard that 3rd party developers get little to no support from ED when starting out, and are required to pay out of pocket and spend years developing with no guarantee ED will “accept” their “accuracy”.

I find it highly ironic that the LA-7 release has been delayed multiple times, (preventing OctopusG from potentially recouping some cost), due to not meeting ED’s standards of accuracy.

This is the same ED that is making…. a full fidelity F-35 sim for DCS. Excuse me, double standards much?

I am so sick and tired of this company, and I wish that a western business would make their own combat jet sim. Leaving the keys to the castle in Moscow with their particular brand of communication (or lack there of) is exhausting for lack of other options. Falcon 5.0 cannot come soon enough!

    1. to be fair Eagle Dynamis IS a western company, it was founded by a Russian and a Brit and it was based in Moscow until the russian founder passed away, now it’s based in Switzerland

      1. As far as I know, the Switzerland angle is more of a PO Box than a developer studio. From what I understand the developers are spread out between Russia, UAE and some business development in the UK and elsewhere.

    2. ED has struggled at times with their communications and developer relations. I don’t always follow everything that is going on but I didn’t know about the La-7 delayed release. Do we know what the sticking points were? It may have been a technical implementation rather than references issue which is where I know some folks are still feeling a bit dubious on the F-35.

  11. Damn , kind of disappointed as I was stationed at Tindal and would have loved to see a little home grown, Unfortunately a lot of the times, good ol Aus gets forgotten about so I suppose this is just another time.
At least it was an internal based decision, and they bowed out with dignity and reasoning, and not the slinging match of who said what, like of recent times.
