Some unusual news coming from the DCS World community and from Eagle Dynamics today with word that three helicopter modules, all developed by Eagle Dynamics, are currently not available for sale on the Russian DCS World storefront. At the moment this only affects that one storefront. Here’s what we know right now.

Withdrawn from sale, but only in Russia

DCS: Black Shark 3, DCS: Mi-24P Hind and DCS: Mi-8MTV2 Magnificent Eight, all developed and supported by Eagle Dynamics (and the briefly independent offshoot Belsimtek) are currently no longer available for sale within the Russian storefront. The change was noticed by the community earlier today and shared around on the Reddit, Discord and forum communities in short order.

We have a short response to questions about the stoppage of sale coming from Eagle Dynamics community manager BIGNEWY which has been shared on Discord. Here’s what was said:

Hi, just that message for now, for Russian KA’s and Mi helicopters.

“The product has been withdrawn from sale at the request of JSC Russian Helicopters”

We will let you know if this changes.

BIGNEWY on the DCS World Discord

JSC Russian Helicopters in modern times holds ownership of the Kamov and Mil helicopters and associated brands.

Its unclear what caused the change now, several years after the launch of these modules, or what behind the scenes changes to licensing have occurred. No change has occurred on the rest of the world storefront and it may be the case that differing regulations mean that those will continue to be offered for sale without disruption. Still, I know how jittery DCS World fans are feeling right now and this just pours a little more gasoline on that fire.

I’m hoping we’ll get some further information on if there will be any impact to markets outside of Russia, if there will be any changes to current support for the modules, or if there’s any other sources of concern. More here or in a new article as we learn about it!

Well, that’s very interesting. Since the ban is localized, I doubt they have the capacity to limit sales outright.

I’ve read in the comments that it’s also being limited at point of purchase so Russian market folks probably won’t be able to bypass this easily.

For everyone else it seems to be ok for not. Hopefully stays that way.

  4. Hopefully one day they can do the Mi-28. That would be cool.

  5. Strange. Taking into account the current situation, they could rather use DCS to encourage young people to become pilots of combat helos. Especially russian ones.

    1. I wonder if this has anything to do with high sabotage activity in Russia right now.

MI8s for example are plentiful and they have them at almost every airport. They are in both military and civilian aviation park.

Maybe they don’t want people to have the tools to be able to train on them. Who knows.

Maybe it’s just having to do with IP rights of those corporations.

if I know anything about the Russian digital/software market, they Will always find a way to get the things they want via VPN or otherwise. So these restrictions are rather silly.
