April 4, 2016 is the date that I wrote and posted my first article on this blog. Starting with a few articles about the IL-2 Sturmovik Great Battles Series, the blog has come an awfully long way since then and it’s always fun to mark the occasion.
Nine years
In the last nine years, I’ve written and published 4,195 articles covering a wide variety of topics. I’ve written about software updates, I’ve reviewed product releases in both software and hardware, there have been editorials, the occasional community drama to cover and so much more.
Through all of those articles I’ve learned an awful lot about aviation in general, flight simming specifically, and it’s been a tremendous boost to my original goal of furthering my ability to quickly write articles. I don’t always write a perfect article, most of them are far from it, but its been a learning process and one that continues on.
Starting as a combat flight sim only site, my learning process has taken me to new corners of the sim marketplace. It may be age talking or it may just be that the search for new horizons has made new types of flying just as appealing but I really appreciate the civil airliner space in ways that I never used to. At the same time, its fun to come back to something like IL-2 or DCS and challenge my combat flying abilities.
At the start of this year, Stormbirds went through a bit of a redesign and the first time I’ve switched the templates on the site to something new. There’s been praise and some valid critiques of the new setup but I hope that everyone has settled with the setup. I’m quite happy overall how its working!
I’ve got more content, reviews, journals and editorials left in me and the journey continues!

After 9-years, I’m truly grateful for everyone who has provided support to this blog over the years in one way or another. Thank you to all of my Patreon supporters who help keep the site going, the commenter community who keep me on my toes and to you – the reader! It’s been a great pleasure of mine to write this and for people to find the site useful. At the end of the day, I hope that you take away as much joy with the hobby of flight simulation as I do and learn something along the way. I certainly have learned a lot doing this.
