The MiG-29A is heading to Steam pre-order while DCS: South Atlantic is set to pick up a series of updates that will move it out of early access. This is the DCS World Weekend News report!

Pre-order heads to Steam

We’ve learned that DCS: MiG-29A is now available on Steam for pre-order. It’s another step in what is surely to be seen as another good sign that the Fulcrum is coming out to early access sooner than later.

The pre-purchase price right now includes a 30% discount with a 20% discount being offered during the initial launch. This is part of the early access process with MiG-29 not having every feature at launch. The post launch aircraft will add a GCI command system, detailed IFF model, flight manual, a campaign and more missions and liveries.

South Atlantic update

Some big changes are coming to DCS: South Atlantic. According to the news report, the map will see every airfield get an optimization pass while texture fidelity is being improved. A new vegetation system will allow for denser, more natural, coverage. Airfield lighting is getting a pass too with new updates and corrections to the PAPI lights. Animated radar units and wind turbines are also being added together with new airfield objects.

This update will reportedly bring the map to a feature complete state and exit early access. The 20% discount on the map remains in place until then.

Notably, the map appears to have fully shed its RAZBAM ties and is now formally listed as being developed by Specter Studios complete with its own section on the DCS World forums. This may have actually happened some time ago but I’ve only just noticed it now.

  1. The South Atlantic Map has come a really long way since it’s scrutinized early release. However, it still has a long way to go bacause DCS lacks some key aircraft modules to go with the map such as the FRS.1 Sea Harrier, Mirage IIIEA and IAI Nesher/Dagger, and the IA-58 Pucara. I say once these aircraft are made as modules, the South Atlantic map will be far more popular to use in Single and Multiplayer, though I may be way off here so i sincerely apologise.

    1. Too bad that South Atlantic won’t be updated and none of those listed aircraft will be released. Razbam has run off with the money and quit development for DCS. Even after ED had a resolution to all that drama.

Don’t give ED your money anymore.

      1. My bad, I didn’t read fully. The aircraft won’t be released though, and the rest of their aircraft won’t be supported

      2. I recommend taking aim first before firing 😉

But in all seriousness it has seemed right from the start of the RAZBAM and Eagle Dynamics dispute that the South Atlantic map existed outside of that paradigm. Maybe a different agreement underlay its development. I don’t know. The map has seen development and updates throughout the dispute. One bright spot.

      3. South Atlantic is just about to receive updates on the next patch. What are you on about?

The developer is not under Razbam umbrella anymore.

ED still one of the few very decent independent developers that put shame on studios owned by giant publishers around.

      4. Razbam didn’t run off with the money. ED stopped paying them.

Razbam did not run off with any money, ED decided to sell Razbam’s planes for 1.5 years and pay them nothing from those sales, and broke the legal settlement agreement so Nick could keep his planes.

        Razbam was bamboozled.

    2. Those aircraft were all part of the original plan. RAZBAM intended to develop assets and aircraft that would make a full south Atlantic scenario viable. Obviously those plans have been derailed.

      1. I think Aviron, once they have finished with their Kfir, should work on the Nesher/Dagger next as it would be a similar aircraft to the Kfir.

  2. Love the South Atlantic map. It’s great for getting away from it all and taking a nice long scenic flight while listening to a podcast. That might not sound very combat-ish, but it’s very enjoyable.

    1. It’s a flight sim sandbox so you get to do what you want to do with it. And a good long haul flight around the map sounds like a fantastic way to experience it.

  3. Wow! SA map getting love. That was highly needed for those who enjoy the map for a good while now, especially the performance passes. Vegetation love is great too.

Perhaps this made my simming month. 🙂👍

    1. Great to hear! I’ve not spent much time with the map since its initial release so this is probably a good time to revisit it. Overhauls like this no doubt help the whole experience.

  4. Yes good to see it getting updates and the name change to Specter looks to be recent

  5. I think it would be good if DCS got an F-16A, because the platform is going to get a Eurofighter very soon, and in real life the Argentine Air Force will be recieving F-16A’s from Denmark. Therefore I think it would be cool to be able to simulate a modern-day fictional Second Falkland’s War dogfight on the South Atlantic map.

    1. The F-16s from Denmark are to a similar standard to the F-16C in game from constant upgrades over the years. Almost the exact same features.

      1. Good to know. Thanks. But I still think DCS needs an early F-16. It would just make historic scenarios feel more realistic. But that is just my opinion. But still, thanks for the information.
