Highly coveted in the flight simulation world, the B-17 Flying Fortress is a legendary aircraft and a complicated airplane to simulate. MicroProse, with ample numbers of B-17 products out in other categories, probably make sense as the developer to deliver a Flying Fortress to Microsoft Flight Simulator and it comes to us as part of their Heritage Valor Collection. Let’s have a look.
The Fortress in early access

Features for the MicroProse B-17G include a high fidelity flight model built for MSFS 2024, authentic 3D mode inside and out, 4K PBR textures, fully modelled cockpit, panels and instrumentation as well as realistic Wwise sounds, visible wear and tear, engine vibrations, particle effects and more. This is what the company plans to deliver once complete, however, the product is in early access and so only five of six liveries are available at launch, the flight model is considered an “initial” offering rather than the finished one, and some of the visible wear and tear and vibration features aren’t quite in yet.
The company are offering up a roadmap of what they intend to offer over the course of several updates.

The company are actively courting feedback during early access as well and encouraging people to join their Discord.
If early access doesn’t bother you all that much and you don’t mind being part of the journey towards release, there is a small 17% discount knocking the regular $39.99 USD price down to $32.99 USD.
The aircraft is now available for purchase from the Just Flight webstore.
