Some developers write lengthy status updates, others will talk in a video, and on occasion you’ll see something a little different. Octopus G, the developer of the DCS: I-16 and work in progress DCS: La-7, has done things a little differently with this latest update.

Testing in progress

DCS: La-7 has been in development for a few years now. The developer has released periodic updates on the aircraft’s status as time has gone on with some of them styled like period news reels. This latest one starts off as more of a cinematic experience… Spoilers ahead.

Revealed in big glowing letters at the end of the video, Octopus G have indicated that the aircraft is now in the hands of Eagle Dynamics for testing. This is often one of the last steps before a product goes to launch so it seems likely that DCS: La-7 is now finally approaching a release status.

The video, though its narrative, also helps show off the aircraft’s cold and dark start process, sound and visual effects, and even some of the ground physics (courtesy of a ground loop).

Brief discussion

We have in recent days talked in the comments section here about the aircraft’s relevance to the DCS WWII time frame. It, like the I-16, will struggle in historical arrangements though the La-7 at the very least comes with historical competitors in the DCS: Bf109K-4 and Fw190D-9. As of yet, no Eastern Front map, assets, or other modules are available beyond discussed.

DCS remains a sandbox sim with varying modules sometimes fitting together well in a thematic way and then other times… not. Nonetheless, it does look like a lot of care and attention has been put into the DCS: La-7 by third party developer Octopus G. Stay tuned for more details on its release.

  1. That was a fun video. I really like the La-7 but I’m still on the fence about getting it. The only WWII plane I’m sure to get on Day One will be the Hellcat.

Yep! It looks really good but its not a must have for me at the moment. I will be keeping an eye on though and maybe that will change.

Hellcat along with the rest of the Pacific assets should be a good addition!

  2. I think it’s an interesting Aircraft but in the context of the current assets and maps I don’t see much playability. I will probably pass on this module as well. I’m actually pausing all module/map/campaign purchases in DCS until I some substantial work on the core, it’s been to many years of “coming soon” for things like AI improvements, ATC, Vulkan and many others.

  3. I like the video, and sooner or later I will buy that warbird. For now, I wait for F-6F. But even if the La-7 is released, we still will not have a proper scenario, a map depicting eastern front theater. Maybe someone will prepare some USSR vs Finland scenarios on Kola map, where La-7 will fight against Finnish Fw-190s.

  4. F6F will be worth it.
    This…nah.

There’s no role for it in the current game sadly.
