We’ve seen some more obvious tie-ins in the past. We got a Pelican dropship from Halo (another Microsoft property) and then there was Top Gun: Maverick and then a Dune movie tie-in. The latest is a cross promotion with Netflix’s Stranger Things, now on its fifth season, with some helicopter activities and a UH-1 Huey to fly. Let’s have a look.

Things are about to get strange!

Combine nostalgia, the paranormal, and some good old fashioned Huey flying and you have the latest cross promotional tie-in with Netflix’s Stranger Things happening within Microsoft Flight Simulator.

Enter the world of Netflix’s Stranger Things and explore the faithful recreation of Hawkins. Two iconic franchises have come together to combine the authenticity and realism of Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 with the exciting, mysterious world of Stranger Things. Think you have what it takes to fly a Bell UH-1H Huey and help the residents of Hawkins in their latest encounters with the Upside Down?

Try your hand at five exhilarating rescue missions! This update is FREE to all owners of Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024. Ensure that your simulator is updated to the latest version, download the Stranger Things update, and start exploring Hawkins. The sky is calling!

While the tie-in is not the most obvious one, it does look like they’ve developed some really interesting gameplay for it. With a spooky backdrop, you’ll be flying the Huey, doing sling loads and rescuing people while the world turns a bit upside down.

Taog’s Huey

Taog’s Hangar is the developer behind the UH-1H featured in the free add-on. The helicopter is an iconic one and work has been done to do things like capture the iconic blade slap. The developer also spent hours inside a real Huey getting a feel for the aircraft and taking hundreds of pictures. The nose of the helicopter was apparently remodeled 10-times before they were happy with the result. It certainly sounds good.

The helicopter is available as part of the expansion but it’s also available in free flight too. So even if you’re not partial to Stranger Things, you may stay for the Huey all the same.

  1. I tried this in free flight, and it seems like the flight model is very basic. But I suppose if you just want to do some easy sightseeing or are interested in the expansion it’s fine.

    1. So it is not the same as the Taog’s flight model of his paid module?

      1. I believe there were some posts on the MSFS forum about it not being the same.

      2. Sounds like its probably using the built in helicopter flight model system which has ranged from not too bad (H125) to disaster (EC135). I haven’t tried this one yet.

  2. I have the v2020 Taogs Huey. Really nice addon!

In v2024 the flight model feels a little off (though I’m no expert), so I haven’t spent much time in it vs their truly excellent H500 (which is faster than the OH-6 in the same package).

will be interesting to contrast the payware v2020 version to this freeware version for v2024.

no word on when/if a 2024 payware version will come as they are neck deep in the HH65 Daufin! (Which suits my preferences just fine 😉)
