Lucky number thirteen? The latest Famous Flyer for Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 is out and its the Northrup T-38A Talon. This well known jet trainer has been developed by veteran sim developer Blackbird Simulations and its now available in the marketplace. Let’s have a look!

Talon time

If you were feeling like flying something with a bit more performance than your average Cessna, Diamond, Boeing or Airbus, the T-38A Talon might be an interesting option for your MSFS 2024 hangar. Blackbird Simulations have developed a number of highly detailed aircraft for the sim and a few of them have even made their way into the default aircraft list – the DHC-2 Beaver being one of them (and a personal favourite of mine).

The Talon is a supersonic advanced trainer and the T-38A variant takes us back to the earliest mass produced version. It should be a fun stick and rudder airplane though I’m curious to see how the flight model feels.

The release comes with a number of liveries representing various US military branches as well as NASA.

It’s available in the Marketplace for $14.99 USD. At present, its only available for MSFS 2024 and its unclear if it will be backported to 2020 at some point.

I like the cockpit, I have been a fan of its predecessor, the Milviz T-38 for FSX.

But unrealistic accelerations in the video (like on takeoff) or flight maneuvers are a turn-off to me. Seems more like an action-aircraft. I hope for a reasonably realistic flight (and stall-) behavior.
