In what is surely a sign that 1C Game Studios new Korea-focused combat flight sim is starting to take shape, the company has just announced that a closed beta test will begin February 20. Here’s what you need to know.

Sign-up to become a tester

Applications to be a closed beta tester for 1C Game Studios and the Korea IL-2 Series release are now open. To register you’ll need to complete a form and then send a private message on the Korea forums to Valery Vedernikov, lead tester for the group.

There are requirements like being able to devote at least 4-hours a week to the test, have a PC able to meet system requirements, active participation in the testing process, and being prepared to sign a Non-Disclosure Agreement (NDA).

Application period ends on February 15, those selected will then be asked to sign the NDA, with applications accepted no later than February 19. Then the test begins.

  1. We have to be a couple months out until release, right? Spring 2026 they said? Getting closer!

Do we know if it’s going to release like IL2:GB did way way back with just two planes to start, and then each update will add more aircraft and more features? Or will we just get the full thing all at once?

    1. This is what they said: “Early Access will start in the Spring, and the official release is scheduled for Q2 2026”

I suspect that they won’t have all the planes right away. also because they showed off the F-84E with no cockpit texturing yet.

    2. Yep! As Aapje already said, it sounds like we’ll see an early access period where some things are working but others won’t be ready to go yet.

  2. Note that they do demand a government ID. Not too keen on sharing that around, myself.

    1. That’s typical with regards to an NDA as it is a legal document and requires ID for verification purposes. That said, I’m not doing it either.

      1. I am part of a testing platform where many tests require an NDA, but they didn’t need my ID. In principle they can always sue people without knowing their name yet and then use discovery to get that.

      2. In my limited experience it’s been more common to have some sort of ID but I’ve certainly seen both.

    2. I’ll be damned if i’m giving a copy of my RealID to a foreign national – especially an RU.

      Sorry, Charlie.

  3. I’ve done a fair amount of testing in the past (IL2, Cliffs of dover, Rise of Flight) but going to pass on this one – its more about that I just can’t commit 4hrs at the moment (that used to be an easy ask but not so much anymore)

  4. When youre an AI engineer you dont have tine to beta test video games lol.

that being said, im super pumped for this title to launch.

Il2 may not be the most ambitious series, but they deliver a solid and consistent product. I pretty much know what to expect.

    1. If they can keep things up the way they largely have over the last decade and a half… it should be pretty solid!
