One flight sim adjacent simulation that I haven’t been able to shake is Triassic Games Sea Power: Naval Combat in the Missile Age. Sometimes I take long breaks but when I come back its just as fun and engrossing as the first few times I played it. The good news is that the developer together with MicroProse have laid out plans for what is coming up next including some exciting new scenarios and a DLC pack.

New Task Force mode and campaign

Pacific Strike ’85 campaign is being updated to use the new Task Force Mode. This is a semi-persistent system where you select and manage your taskforce across multiple scenarios.
The new mode will come with full documentation so the community can configure their own campaigns using the system.
The road to dynamic campaign
The folks at Triassic are seemingly taking the pragmatic approach to developing a dynamic campaign. Needing to build out systems that support it has seen them slowly add features like persistence across scenarios, force construction, damage and repair management and improved AI.
All of these are reportedly efforts by Triassic to eventually get to the full dynamic campaign experience. Here’s what they had to say about it:
Dynamic Campaign will then take all of those systems and bring them together. Our goal is to get the core campaign loop working in a way that is playable, testable, and expandable, then continue building on it. As always more information will be shared via these dev blogs, our dev streams, and on the MicroProse Discord as we make progress.
Other updates
Detailed in the developer update also include work on map reprojection which is aimed at improving map and terrain rendering at higher latitudes, updates to aircraft behaviour (which remains a weak point for the title) and adding new strike planner features, as well as adding new and updated content as well as improving performance.
