Amidst the terrible news on the passing of Matt Wagner, we do have other news items that have come out this week. One is an update to legacy static object models and another is news that Ugra Media are planning to release their own campaign. Let’s have a look.

Static model updates

We’ve seen a slow, sometimes unsteady, but also unyielding effort to update DCS World’s legacy models. While many DCS World aircraft, vehicles, and static objects are modeled at extremely high levels of detail fitting for modern simulation in the 2020s, the project is also still dragging along some models that come from Lock-On: Modern Air Combat and perhaps even earlier. DCS World’s classic 3D static objects are among the oldest in the series right now and they are seeing some updates!

These objects were built for the Caucasus map and while their visuals are being updated, their overall purpose and footprint are remaining the same ensuring that they continue to work in legacy missions and scenarios. Each object now features summer and winter textures ensuring that the objects fit in well as the seasons change.

Eagle Dynamics say that the changes will be ongoing.

Ugra Media’s Red Storm

Well known for over a decade of map development within DCS World, Ugra Media are working their way into a new category: campaign development. Operation Red Storm is making use of the DCS: Cold War Germany map (developed by Ugra Media) and the freely available Su-25T to offer a campaign with a unique dynamically advancing front line.

They report that there will be 18 missions with more than 10 hours of gameplay focused on supporting ground forces, striking enemy infrastructure, suppressing air defenses and escort operations. Your actions during the missions will reportedly shape the frontline which sounds interesting. The campaign will feature detailed briefings and voice overs. Read more about it here!
