News is coming in from Eagle Dynamics again this week on the latest updates to the Caucasus and Strait of Hormuz maps, they also showed off their Ju88 model and Belsimtek releases a GPS module for the Mi-8. So lets get into it!

The Junkers ubiquitous bomber

If you’ve played a WWII sim based in the east or west you’ve probably come up against the infamous Ju88 and very likely the Ju88A-4. This bomber is a workhorse of the Luftwaffe capable of both level and dive bombing attacks and its part of the DCS: WWII Assets Pack that has reached early access level in their online store.

The model is un-textured at the moment but its coming along and beautifully detailed.

The Mi-8 gets a GPS

Belsimtek’s NS 430 Navigation System is now available for DCS: Mi-8MTV2. To be clear, this is a separate module that Belsimtek is selling in the DCS e-Store for $14.99 USD.

Naturally there has been much debate over the selling a separate module that is just a GPS device. It’s definitely different but then Rise of Flight sells collimator gunsights as separate modules so maybe its not so weird.

This is, from what I can tell, a full recreation of a popular GPS module from 1997.

It’s not a required module for the Mi-8 but its something the die-hard enthusiast might want.

Hormuz and Caucasus update

This didn’t make it into the Weekly Newsletter but it did show up on Eagle Dynamics Facebook page.

One aspect of updating the Caucuses map has been updating all of the existing airfields. Here is a small sample of what we have coming.

In parallel, work on continues on the Strait of Hormuz map. Here are some juicy, potential targets.

Just a couple of screens below feature some of the updated airbase objects as well as some industrial zones for the Hormuz map. Both are shaping up to be impressive visually and hopefully will be showcases of what DCS World 2.x is capable of alongside the Normandy map for DCS World War II related materials.

  2. […] Selling separately in three packages rather than spreading them across all modules evenly has caused some players to accuse Eagle Dynamics of “nickle and diming” them for every piece of an aircraft. Some players feel that Eagle Dynamics shouldn’t do this and this model has already caused controversy in the past. […]
