It’s been a busy and exciting day for DCS World fans as the DCS: F/A-18C Hornet module was officially released into early access. I’ve flown it for just a few minutes so I could get some screenshots for this story and that’s about it.

First hour impressions

I won’t even call this my first impressions because I haven’t flown the Hornet for more than 20 minutes so far. My first hour (less than half) impressions are just starting to form but I have to say that its an impressive module for me so far.

The Hornet has always been one of my all-time favourites so flying it is a really cool experience. The aircraft feels fast, responsive, capable, and its clear that Eagle Dynamics have put a lot of care into building this. It’s not done yet but it’s a heck of a great start!

Patching has been flawless for me with no bugs or issues during the setup process. I know not everyone had a smooth start but mine went smoothly.

Ready for more

I’m not a quick study on many aircraft systems but I look forward to getting to know the Hornet slowly over time. It’s an aircraft that I look forward to spending a lot of time getting setup, figuring out systems, and putting them to use.

I’ll have plenty of coverage of this new module over time too so stay tuned for much more!

In the meantime, I leave you with a few more screenshots of the Hornet.

  1. Do you have to download “Open Beta” version to play early access Hornet or you can download the module to stable DCS 2.5?

The Hornet is currently only available on the Open Beta release. We’re told it will come to the stable release soon. A couple of weeks I would assume.
