DCS: FW190A-8 is now up for pre-order!

Another announcement from Eagle Dynamics today is news that the DCS: FW190A-8 is now available for pre-order ending June 5th – the likely release date of the new module. Definitely good news for DCS: WWII fans!

Enter the Anton

While the DCS: FW190D-9 has been available for a considerable amount of time, it was never an aircraft that fit well with the Normandy 1944 scenario that the team has been otherwise pushing. The FW190A-8, on the other hand, fits perfectly and offers up a great foil for the likes of the DCS: Spitfire IX and DCS: P-51D!

No new DCS World module going into early access this soon is good without a proper trailer and we have one:

Features and a few questions

We of course have the feature set from Eagle Dynamics and it lists the usual information about the fidelity and accuracy of the modeling:

  • Unmatched flight physics that allow you to truly feel what it’s like to fly this legend.
  • Highly detailed, six-degrees-of-freedom (6 DOF) cockpit.
  • Interact with cockpit controls with your mouse.
  • Accurate Fw 190 A-8 model, squadron markings, and weapons.
  • Detailed modelling the Fw 190 A-8 instruments, weapons, engine, radios, fuel, and electrical systems.
  • Battle the Spitfire LF Mk.IX and P-51D Mustang in single and multiplayer games.

The description also mentions that the aircraft could be loaded with rockets and bombs although it’s unclear at this time if Eagle Dynamics will go and do with 1CGS did with their IL-2: Battle of Bodenplatte FW190A-8. In that case, 1CGS also made their FW190A-8 into an F-8 and G-8 opening the door to some more powerful ground attack munitions.

Good news for DCS: WWII!

I think DCS: WWII has long suffered by not having the appropriate aircraft to counter each other. While the FW190D-9 and Bf109K-4 are excellent and awesome aircraft, their timeline puts them months after the Normandy campaign that DCS WWII is otherwise focused on.

Adding aircraft like the FW190A-8 nail the timeline far better and mean that the Normandy campaign can be built into a more historical one with greater depth of interest. The scenario still cries out for the likes of the DCS: P-47, DCS: Mosquito, and the other WWII asset pack aircraft such as the A-20G, Ju88, C-47, a Typhoon Mark IB.

Still, the A-8 helps add to a growing foundation of content that will some day turn into something really impressive.

Ready for the Anton?

If you can’t wait, head on over to the DCS World e-Store and pre-order the FW190A-8 which has now appeared on the e-Store. Pricing is in-line with other DCS WWII modules such as the Spitfire IX at $49.99 USD (and is currently $39.99 with the 20% discount applied).

Now we just need the Gustav 6 for the BF 109 and we are set.

Agreed! At this point its on their WWII Asset Pack list but I do hope that they make an effort to turn it into a flyable module. If they wanted to go the extra mile there are some various 1944 era mods for the G-6 that they could represent.

It looks like it is already very difficult for the devs to focus on aircrafts of the same era, we are gonna need a miracle to have matching variants.

Store page gives MG 131 as 7.92 mm when in fact they were 13 mm
