RAZBAM shows WIP MiG-23MLA model (updated)

It’s still early days for the DCS: MiG-23MLA by RAZBAM but we are starting to see a little more about this module coming from the same internal team that delivered the MiG-19P. Let’s have a look!

New model progress

We have just a single image of the MiG-23MLA model by RAZBAM in this latest update and it shows some extremely detailed engine components as well as the antenna on the vertical fin. According to RAZBAM is model is a complete rebuild from what they were working on earlier.

Although I have no idea, my best guess is that the model team decided that the best thing for them to do was start fresh – possibly using knowledge gained during the MiG-19 build.

This comes on the heels of another image back late in November that showed the same area but without the shading and some of the details.

It’s unclear if the MiG-23MLA is targeting 2020 as a release but it is still nice to see progress. Look forward to seeing more in 2020! Find out more on the RAZBAM Facebook page.

A post by OverStratos from the RAZBAM development team on their Discord channel suggests that there will be some surprises with the MiG-23 as well as confirming the targeted 2020 release window.

Hello there will be a few surprises with the MiG-23 module. (not related to release date, which as I told, we are aiming for a 2020 release)

One of the guessed at surprises is that the MiG-23MLA may be upgraded to the more capable MLD or that both versions of the MiG-23 will be offered. The guess at modeling a MLD version is based on the file name of the image “A23_MFLD_2.JPG.” This of course is complete conjecture and we’ll wait for RAZBAM to fill in some details there as time goes on.

    Those early renders look promising!

MiG-23 in fighter and bomber variants was the backbone of our Bulgarian Airforce during the 80s (in 4 active squadrons in 1989) and by then was mature and well liked by both pilots and ground crew. When production stopped (in 1984 I believe) the airforce had to switch with great reluctance to either MiG-29 or the upcomming Su-27, recommended by the soviet experts.

I am tempted by the -23 only because it is iconic (no real interest in flying).

Bit OT, but any updates on the new maps for DCS?

    Happy New Year, all!
