Starting out with just a handful of aircraft, community member Utopioneer has been busy building a tutorial campaign for a wide variety of aircraft in the IL-2: Great Battles Series. So many in-fact that his flight school campaign now covers 33 aircraft spread across the various titles of the series. Here are the latest details!

Training on a per aircraft basis

One of the issues sometimes leveled at flight simulators in general is the lack of in-game tutorials. There’s a lot of basic knowledge that gets skipped or assumed and a lot of aircraft specific knowledge that is needed to get the most out of your aircraft. Although not officially part of the IL-2 series, Utopioneer’s Flight School fills that need to learn on each aircraft in the sim – individually.

We’ve seen the community help to support the training needs of others with a variety and versatility of material beyond what any developer could manage to do and this is another great example.

Each Flight School campaign features eight missions including,

  1. Basic flight through waypoints
  2. Take-off
  3. Landing
  4. Shoot down a bomber
  5. Dogfight
  6. Ground Attack
  7. Taxi
  8. Formations

The 33-aircraft now covered by Flight School so far covers every single light fighter along with the U-2VS and The S.E.5a and Fokker D.VII and more are on the way! Additionally, the campaigns are now translated thanks to the efforts of community members Serdalf (French), 6FG_Big_Al (German), =gRiJ=Roman- (Spanish), ITAF_Airone1989 (Italian).
