Sturmovikfest Day Four: Return of the mass formation!

JimTM’s mass formation event is back with its second run today (on the Combat Box) server. Meanwhile, we will be flying-in on the Finnish Virtual Pilots server again tonight too. If you’re in Australia you should check out The Unprofessionals server!

Returning to Finnish Virtual pilots

A strike on the enemy frontline in a P-39 on Finnish Virtual Pilots – Dynamic War.

Last night we went on Finnish Virtual Pilots server with their dynamic war setup. This is very much like Tactical Air War’s setup except without some of the more punishing pilot death and aircraft allotments in place. That does change the dynamic a little bit but it’s still interesting as the server employs a points system that means that aircraft losses are felt by the team.

The frontline moves based direction on the actions of players in the server. Destroy an enemy stronghold at the frontline moves in that direction. Have your own stronghold destroyed and it moves back. IL-2 Lead Producer Jason Williams joined us for a short flight and streamers Wolfpack345 and Rhyn0 (starting around the 7:00 mark) streamed the battle from the Allied point of view.

We also got to check out tanks in IL-2 multiplayer which was my first time doing that. I’ll be doing a full write-up in the future on the pro’s, con’s and what Tank Crew will need in the future. It was very cool to have a three person tank be manned by exclusively humans.

Mass formation back at it

A second mass formation event happens tonight under JimTM’s excellent organizational skills. Be sure to check out the thread dedicated to the event and sign-up if you’re wanting to join in. And don’t miss out on the skin download links for A-20B, P-51D and Bf109K-4 available from the festival page.

I hope everyone continues to enjoy Sturmovikfest!

I just had to watch the video and try to figure out what you guys did wrong…until figuring out the obvious. Doh!

Three real people in one tank – that sounds really exciting indeed, as should be the case with multiple crew planes.

Although as I single-player only, I haven’t taken part in any of your events, I think it’s great you are doing these. My hat’s off to you!

Hopefully, our nice hobby will get a much needed boost as a result.
