IL-2 official poll asks about which Scripted Campaign you want next

An official poll started by 1CGS developer BlackSix asks which Great Battles Scripted Campaign you want next with a choice between two possible campaigns that they are starting to develop now that Ice Ring is in the finishing stages and is set to be released within the next few weeks.

Fighter versus fighter-bomber over Kuban

The next campaign has been determined to be a Kuban based scenario set in the spring of 1943. BlackSix has posted two options that he has researched including a Bf 109 G-4 fighter campaign with II./JG 52 from April-May 1943 or a Fw 190 A-5 ground attack campaign with II./Sch.G 1, from April-May 1943.

There’s definite appeal to both. For the Bf109G-4 campaign, BlackSix writes,

As a fully independent work, at the same time it will continue the story started in the “Ten Days of Autumn” and “Fortress on the Volga”. The main distinguishing feature of this campaign will be an extraordinary intensity of air battles, accompanied by the use of almost all types of Soviet fighters, which were then in service with the VVS RKKA (Yak-1, Yak-1b, Yak-7b, Yak-9, LaGG-3, La-5F, P-39L-1, P-40E-1 and Spitfire Mk.VB).

That sounds really good to me, however, there’s an equally compelling reason to do a Fw190A-5 campaign.

Besides the fact that “Focke-Wulf” is not frequent guest in the scripted campaigns, I would also be interested to try to recreate the combat operations of the German ground attack aviation during the Battle of Kuban, which will allow you to look at the events shown in the “Sea Dragons” campaign from a completely different perspective.

The question also came up about how much fighter combat the II./Sch.G1 campaign would have and to that BlackSix responded saying,

If the community chooses the ground attack campaign, you will still have a lot of problems with Soviet fighters.

Right now it seems that the community is leaning towards a Fw190A-5 campaign with the novelty of a Focke-Wulf campaign (not something yet done) probably outweighing the interest in another Bf109 campaign, however, there’s still time to weigh in yourself.

No “official” Focke-Wulf campaigns 🙂 there’s 2 user made campaigns for the A-3, 1 for D-9 and one that is partially A-5. This will be the first full A-5 campaign though. The germans need some love after the last campaigns forum comments, wish I had time to fly them all but I’ll buy them anyway.

I want a Western Front campaign with US fighters escorting B-25 missions. I know it’s be better with Razorback P-47 and P-51B (not to mention B-17) to simulate Big Week in February, 1944 and after (P-38J-25 arrived mid-1944).

Well you will soon have the option for something like this :). Gambit is working on a P-47 campaign. Even when I think it will probably go into the same direction as Lightning Strikes it will be definitely worth a look 😀 And it seems it’s already in the final testing stage.

A campaign dedicated to escorting bombers sounds like a great idea. I was thinking about your comment and if we want to stick to a really solid historical representation of this, then what we really need is the Normandy map and the AI B-26 they are planning. Then we can have a P-51B or P-47D-22 campaign escorting those bombers on some of the historical raids into the Normandy area prior to D-Day. I think that’d feel pretty good within the limitations of the sim and while also sticking to historical events.

I’m actually now excited by that prospect!

Fw would be more interesting, personally.

Maybe a JG3 campaign on the Kursk map?

Zero interest here in another 109 campain. Plenty of interest in a FW one, though.
